Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in civil engineering are assured progression to a UAB graduate engineering degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Civil Engineering
A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market.

Our infrastructure demands the attentive eye of someone like you to sustain productive communities, from our roads, buildings, and dams to air quality and wastewater treatment—and even traffic patterns. At UAB, we can give you the engineering, design, and planning background you need to be a leader in civil engineering.

To prepare you for your career, we've designed a program that you can tailor based on your interests and goals. We have four concentrations for you to choose from, including construction engineering management, in which you can learn about cost and revenue estimating, risk, and more. Plus you can choose a thesis option, non-thesis option with an emphasis on research and design, or a non-thesis option with an emphasis on sustainable engineering design. But no matter which you choose, you're going to need to both complete a comprehensive exam and defend either your research project or thesis in order to graduate. Finally, we're going to offer you the opportunity to earn a certificate in environmental, structural, sustainable, and transportation engineering, or engineering construction management. In the end, you'll have the best chance at an education designed to meet your specific career goals.

International studies will give you an in-depth knowledge of what's happening around the world, letting you focus your courses on specific areas that interest you. We'll help prepare you for a career in a variety of fields, including international relations, business, journalism, economics, politics, diplomacy, and much more.

The number one asset you'll need for success is a keen understanding of today's world economy. That's why we offer you the option to focus on a variety of areas, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Your curriculum will cover such topics as economics, socio-political awareness, and cultural literacy. We'll help you line up a study-abroad opportunity, participation in the Model Arab League, an internship with an international business, or another experience.

Medical sociology looks at how a person's culture, feelings, and other social factors play a role in their health-care choices. A medical sociology degree can help prepare you for a career in health care, research, government data analysis, or other industries.

To begin your education, you'll take courses in medical sociology, medical social theory, and research methods/statistics. You'll then move on to electives on special topics that interest you, such as Death and Dying, Biology and Society, and Minority Aging. We know, some of these topics can get a little heavy—but they're important. And when you pair them with a pre-professional medical program, you'll have insights to social behaviors that can be invaluable to you throughout your career.

Social Work
If you want to help people, consider a social work degree, and learn how to make a difference in some of the world's most difficult challenges—poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, discrimination, and loss. In the process, find out how to turn social work into a career.

To begin with, we'll teach you about values, welfare, human behavior, social environments, and research. You'll get to explore topics like social and economic justice for populations at risk. Then you'll complete a practicum, giving you real-world experience working at an actual social service agency. Because, when you graduate, we want you to have everything you need to start a career in social work. That means you can do more than make a living for yourself—you can change lives. You can make a difference.

The BS in Public Health degree offers a broad overview of public health research and practice, introducing you to the multiple focus areas within public health (e.g., epidemiology, health behavior, health policy). Our students also gain hands-on experience working with community partners to improve the health of populations. Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the BS in Public Health degree is designed to prepare students to:

• Identify key health challenges facing a community, based on evaluation and synthesis of public health information.
• Recognize the importance of evidence-based strategies to address public health challenges facing a community.
• Advocate for improved health in the community, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.

African American Studies
The BA in African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program examining African life and culture, both on the African continent and the diaspora. As a student, you will learn about the African and African American experience from different perspectives including English, history, political science, sociology, and public health.

We are committed to educating and providing our students with knowledge and critical thinking skills to:

• Address social justice issues,
• Promote the diversity of ideas, and
• Understand the experiences, traditions, and history of African descended people.

Health Care Management
The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management (HCM) was established at UAB in 1982. The degree offers a pathway into entry and mid?level management careers for some and serves as a foundation for success in graduate?level academic or professional degree programs for others.
A successful healthcare practice not only has great providers—doctors, nurses, optometrists, dentists, and the like—it has high quality management. Our Health Care Management degree helps provide a pathway for students who want to go into mid-level management careers or continue onto a graduate program.

We designed this program for aspiring leaders, like you, who want to improve healthcare systems, including in hospitals, managed care organizations, medical group practices, consulting firms, government agencies, non-profits, and other companies in ambulatory, long-term care, insurance, and pharmaceutical. We have several concentrations to choose from depending on your academic work, current professional status, personal interests, and future goals. You'll also have the opportunity to earn your master's in occupational therapy, health informatics, or health-care quality and safety through our fast-track program.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. In order for our students to develop the skills that employers desire and that Grand Challenge interdisciplinary research problems demand, the UAB Department of Physics offers five different undergraduate tracks designed to help students achieve their career goals not only in traditional physics, but also in closely-related engineering, STEM, teaching, computational, and medical fields.

As a high-school teacher, you can have a tremendous influence over a person during some of their most formative years. In fact, what you teach someone can last a lifetime. At UAB, we can teach you the skills needed to become a high school educator.

To get started, you must first decide what subject you want to teach: science, social studies, math, or English language arts. Then, you'll learn critical skills, competencies, and instructional strategies from our nationally-renowned faculty. We'll also give you hands-on experience through internships and practicums. Finally, if you're a future math or science teacher, you may want to enroll in UABTeach, our four-year program that lets you earn a STEM degree while also qualifying for certification as a classroom teacher.
