The Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) program is divided into two tracks:

• The Thesis Track program is designed to prepare students to pursue doctoral-level study in criminology, criminal justice, or a related field. Students selecting this option are required to complete a thesis project under a faculty adviser.
• The Non-Thesis Track program is geared toward working professionals and designed to provide to them advanced training in such areas as research methods, program evaluation, and policy analysis. Students selecting this option are required to complete a Demonstration Project and are strongly encouraged to complete a field placement (Internship).

Art
Want to take a deep dive into a specific arts discipline designed to bring out the creative genius inside you? This intensive fine arts program can give you a solid foundation for graduate school or prepare you for a career in graphic design, medical illustration, costume design, cinematography—the possibilities are practically endless.

We'll teach you the techniques of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, new media, and other art forms. But we'll take it one step further by preparing you for a career. We'll show you the business side of being an artist, with courses such as Professionalism, Project Management, and Entrepreneurship. And when your days in our program near their end, you'll participate in an exhibit at UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts to highlight your undergraduate journey and celebrate your accomplishments.

Social Work
If you want to help people, consider a social work degree, and learn how to make a difference in some of the world's most difficult challenges—poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, discrimination, and loss. In the process, find out how to turn social work into a career.

To begin with, we'll teach you about values, welfare, human behavior, social environments, and research. You'll get to explore topics like social and economic justice for populations at risk. Then you'll complete a practicum, giving you real-world experience working at an actual social service agency. Because, when you graduate, we want you to have everything you need to start a career in social work. That means you can do more than make a living for yourself—you can change lives. You can make a difference.

Electrical Engineering
If electric currents, self-driving cars, and the latest smartphone apps get you amped, you should consider a degree in electrical and computer engineering. This degree can help you pursue a career in electric power, aerospace, computer engineering, consulting, defense, or the environment.

How do we do it? First, we'll hardwire you with a strong foundation of electrical engineering fundamentals. Your courses will cover topics such as analog and digital electronics, microprocessor applications, biomedical instrumentation, digital computer systems, software systems, electric utility power systems, digital control, industrial electronics, and machinery control. Then, through your capstone design experience, we'll plug you in with a team so you can prove your ability to design, develop, and test real solutions to engineering problems. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.

The goals of the ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering are to prepare graduates for the following:

• Succeed in a career in electrical engineering or in further education.
• Approach problem solving with an engineering mind set.
• Grow professionally.

A theatre degree can give you performing arts experience as an actor, designer, stage manager, director, scriptwriter, costume and set designer, and much more. This degree could lead to a career in Hollywood, New York, or just about anywhere.

But before you see your name in lights, we first have to hone your talents and teach you about topics such as scenery, lighting, makeup, and even theatre history. But don't worry, we'll want to get you on the stage often during your education, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to put your new skills to use. In fact, with our state-of-the-art theatres and scene design shop, you'll have opportunities to participate in or create professional-level productions.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. Pre-arrival questions get answered. Travel fears get addressed. Help with everything from tutoring to career guidance—at the ready for IMP students.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the most wellknown Public Health degree. It is considered a “terminal” or “professional” degree, as it fully prepares individuals for lifelong careers in public health practice without the need for additional education. 

HealthCare Organization and Policy - Concentration
The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Health Care Organization and Policy is designed for individuals who are planning on management-focused careers in public health. Perhaps you aspire to be the executive director of a non-profit charitable organization or a senior-level manager in a health department or federal agency. Perhaps you are a physician, nurse, pharmacist, or other clinician who wants to move from direct patient care into a supervisory position with a broad focus on the health of a community.

Students in this program are introduced to the public health system and the fundamental skills necessary for practice in the public health sector and managing health care organizations. Required coursework includes basic management disciplines and selected content in economics, finance, marketing, law, and health insurance.

As a criminal justice student, you'll not only learn about crime and justice—you'll also gain critical skills in analyzing and communicating. In fact, with your degree, you can pursue careers in law enforcement – including cyber crime investigation – and social services, business, and education.

We’ll train you in the areas of corrections, criminology, forensic science, juvenile justice, law, policing, computer forensics, and other positions. Your courses will teach you the theories of crime and delinquency, as well as the logic, procedures, and ethical foundations associated with our nation's justice system. Finally, during your senior year, we'll set you up with an internship at an agency such as the FBI, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, or the Jefferson County Family Court.

Management
Effective managers are vital to the success of every organization-from small start-up companies to multi-national corporations.  Why? Because managers are the ones who skillfully coordinate and control the activities of the organization to achieve business goals.  At the core of good management is the need to know how to attract, motivate and reward the best and brightest people.  Management is also about effective alignment.  Organizations are complicated systems that rely on the effective coordination of people, technology and organizational processes to be successful.  Managers drive this alignment through their skills of strategic thinking, strong communications and employee motivation to create business value.

Today’s business environment requires graduates who can effectively evaluate and make decisions, lead employees and manage resources. Management is ideal for people who like big picture thinking, can understand how processes work, have a passion for problem-solving and who can multi-task effectively to help create value for the organization. Management is also a great place to start for entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. And, we’ll help you prepare for a continued education or career in fields such as biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases, neurobiology, endocrinology, and cardiology.

Physics
Students who major in physics go on to successful careers in a variety of fields that impact both big research problems and our technologically-based global economy. The UAB Department of Physics offers a rigorous but flexible undergraduate program that emphasizes both depth and breadth in order to meet the demands of tomorrow’s technology-based research and education global scenes.

In order for our students to develop the skills that employers desire and that Grand Challenge interdisciplinary research problems demand, the UAB Department of Physics offers five different undergraduate tracks designed to help students achieve their career goals not only in traditional physics, but also in closely-related engineering, STEM, teaching, computational, and medical fields.
