With its own recording studio and a host of performance ensembles, the Fred Fox School of Music is one of the highest-ranked in the nation. Students seeking their Bachelor of Music in Performance with a String Bass emphasis take 89 units of music courses. In addition to choosing electives, students satisfy core classes in music literature, music history, pedagogy, orchestration, conducting, piano and applied lessons. As part of the requirements, they audition for placement in a large conducted ensemble, where they'll have the opportunity to perform with other high-caliber student musicians.

Become a leader in historic preservation and learn about the importance of heritage conservation to preserve and create more sustainable built environments.Students in the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program with a Heritage Conservation Emphasis explore the value of historic structures and landscapes and the reasons for preserving and adapting them. The faculty bring a breadth of experience and depth of expertise to coursework, teaching students how the preservation and adaptation of historic structures advances environmental, cultural and economic sustainability. Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. When students embark on a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Ideas and Methods, they focus on theoretical questions that lead to real-world change. Students explore the processes, principles and structures of government and political institutions in the U.S. and in countries around the globe. Coursework covers international relations, political theory, foreign affairs, methodology and institutions, and includes hands-on internship opportunities at nonprofit organizations and government agencies. The field of ecology and evolutionary biology deals with the integration of biological systems across all levels of organization, from molecular biology to global ecosystems. This Bachelor of Science is for the student planning to pursue graduate study or a career in ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related scientific field. The Bachelor of Arts prepares students for careers that require having scientific knowledge, such as scientific journalism, developing environmental and scientific policy or practicing law in related fields. The curriculum includes core courses in genetics, ecology and evolution, with additional study through involvement in independent research, usually by working in the labs of our faculty. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television trains students to become directors, producers, screenwriters, cinematographers, editors, sound designers and other industry leaders. Urban and Regional Development is the study of economic development and sustainability of our built and natural environments. This Bachelor of Science addresses questions of urban and regional growth, location of economic activity, land development and real estate. Students learn to analyze data, use cartographic and geographic information systems and gain hands-on training in the field. Additionally, students learn interactively in remote-sensing laboratories. Upon graduation, they enter the workforce with directly applicable skills such as teamwork and collaboration; analytical research; a working knowledge of industry software; design; strategic thinking; and understanding of planning law and legislation.
