Establish the foundation you need to conduct psychological research and move on to advanced studies. Psychological science is the study of the mind and brain and how these influence human actions with an emphasis on psychological research. Coursework includes the study of development, learning, personality, memory, perception, consciousness, sexuality, love, spirituality and more. Undergraduates learn fundamental principles and concepts of psychology and crucial problem-solving skills relevant to research. Students must first complete 18 units of foundational psychology coursework within the Pre-Psychological Science requirements. They then advance from the pre-major to the full major to complete an additional 27 units of coursework and psychological research with faculty. The B.S. degree prepares undergraduates for a Ph.D. in Psychology and other advanced studies and careers that require a robust understanding of science and research methods.

The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry uses chemistry as a tool to examine the molecular processes of life. Biochemistry is at the core of life sciences, and biochemical knowledge provides the underpinning for a variety of disciplines, from medicine to agriculture to engineering. In this program, students take coursework from award-winning faculty whose research and expertise include diverse specialties: protein structure and function, molecular genetics, medicinal biochemistry, optics, physics and more. Students hone communication and presentation skills; learn report writing, analytical thinking and research methods; and develop proficiency in mathematics and information technology. Neuroscience and cognitive science are broad areas of scientific study. Students seeking the Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science with a Thematic emphasis can choose an in-depth topical focus that matches their future career, research or study goals. The Thematic emphasis is meant for students who have a clear and compelling interest in a particular topic area in neuroscience and cognitive science that falls outside the scope of the major's several other emphases. Students wishing to choose a Thematic focus will be required to explain to faculty what the topic area is and why it doesn't align with the current emphases, as well as support the objectives of their coursework. As with the other emphases, research and independent study can be used for up to six of the 15 credits required to complete an emphasis.

Students can audition for the Bassoon Studio, where they'll partake in weekly lessons and studio classes, guest-artist master classes, performance opportunities and clinician-led workshops in orchestral repertoire, entrepreneurship and even performance anxiety. While learning from a faculty comprising renowned artists, performers and scholars, students enjoy access to a state-of-the-art recording studio, a visiting composer series and the Arizona Contemporary Ensemble.

Improve your technique and performance skills as a flute musician while broadening your understanding of the fundamentals of music. Flute studies at the Fred Fox School of Music include weekly private lessons, a weekly studio master class, small group technique classes, flute pedagogy and more. Along with applied study, students earning the Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Flute emphasis perform solo, chamber, concerto, orchestral and wind ensemble repertoire for live performances, competitions and recordings. They focus on performance objectives; develop important kinesiological habits; condense music theory, history and physiology in a simplified, interpretative way; and train the body's physical performance mechanisms. Students are encouraged to seek national and international recognition through competitions, festival performances and scholarly publications.
