Develop expert-level language proficiency in one of the largest and most influential global economies. In the Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies program, students select from one of two focuses in language or culture. The Chinese Language Intensive focus provides instruction on three levels, from beginning to advanced, plus specialized instruction in advanced reading, writing and conversation. Students learn to communicate effectively and read proficiently.  The department offers a summer study abroad program in Hangzhou, where students learn about China's dynamic Buddhist tea culture while staying in a monastery connected to the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.

Students earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts receive a broad-based education of the theatrical arts. Students learn to appreciate the relationship of dramatic text to theatrical production; understand the working practices and standards of the professional theatre; communicate artistic intent through acting, directing, design and research; and learn how to organize resources to facilitate the theatrical production process. Coursework stresses critical thinking in verbal and written communication; employs theatre as a lens through which to examine cultural trends; encourages students to develop projects that merge theory and practical applications; and explores the vitality of theatre as a communal expression of gender and cultural diversity.

Interested in the policies that responsibly manage our planet's natural resources? Learn everything you need to know to meet the needs of a growing population. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Water Resource Economics prepares students to become responsible leaders in the management of natural resources through coursework in quantitative methods, economics, politics and communication. Students not only learn how to formulate policies for responsibly managing natural resources, but they also gain skills in business management, human resources, and food and fiber production. Nationally recognized for its teaching and research, the Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics adheres to a tradition of discovery, education and service. Faculty and students vigorously engage in research in environmental and natural resource policy, regional economics and development, and agricultural production and marketing.

Students earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in the French Horn learn from and interact with the Fred Fox School of Music's esteemed faculty. Dedicated to honing student talent, the faculty members are equally at home in the classroom, studio and on the stage. Along with individualized instruction and mentoring, performance faculty members regularly appear in solo recitals and as guest artists with major opera companies, symphony orchestras, chamber groups and other ensembles. The school offers students a variety of musical experiences from technical instruction to performing opportunities and presents hundreds of concerts a year.

If proficiency in both Spanish and Portuguese is important to you, consider the Spanish and Portuguese emphasis under the Spanish major. Students seeking their Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Spanish and Portuguese emphasis take language, literature, linguistics and culture courses in both languages. The major consists of 18 credits in each language, and placement exams help determine a student's starting level. The University of Arizona is home to one of the largest Portuguese language programs in the nation, and various clubs offer students the opportunity to practice conversing in either Spanish or Portuguese outside of the classroom. In addition to several study abroad programs for Spanish-speaking students, the university offers a six-week program in Fortaleza, Brazil, for those wanting to immerse themselves in Portuguese.

In this Bachelor of Arts major, students gain deep knowledge of society's origins, its functions and its problems, focusing on relations among people, groups, organizations and cultures. Graduates walk away adept at quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as with strong interview skills and sharply honed writing abilities. Many students use a Sociology major as the base for careers in law, health or social services, while others employ it as a launch pad for graduate work as a professional sociologist in research organizations or educational institutions.

In today's digital world, where information is disseminated in seconds, a journalist's role is that of truth-seeker for the masses. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Global Journalism equips students for careers in national and international news reporting. In addition to learning the building blocks of good journalism (law, ethics, information gathering, effective and accurate communication), they also explore the complex and sensitive nuances of reporting on and about diverse cultures and foreign countries. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required. Coursework in digital media, such as drone videography and app development, helps further prepare students for the evolving field of journalism.

Mathematicians can work as university professors, teaching and doing research, or in a variety of scientific fields. The Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a Comprehensive emphasis serves as a launching pad for students wishing to attain a graduate degree in mathematics, mathematics education or applied math. Undergraduates immerse themselves in the study of abstract algebra, mathematical analysis and more. They learn to apply rigorous logic and creativity to mathematical problems. In addition, they must complete a minor outside of the Department of Mathematics. Students who major in comprehensive mathematics and another field should be well-prepared for graduate studies in either field.
