The Bachelor of Science in Geography with a Geographic Information Science emphasis offers courses in cutting-edge GIS and geographic information systems technology (GIST) to fill the growing worldwide demand for skilled geospatial professionals. The program offers courses in remote sensing, cartography, spatial modeling, and the application of GIS for land assessment, wildlife conservation, transportation and the social sciences. Students also gain skills in mathematical and computational thinking, problem-solving, and oral and written communication. Students pursuing a Geography major with a GIS emphasis have access to courses that will help them become technologically proficient in GIS programming, project management, spatial data integration and management, and the production of spatial data visualizations for print, multimedia and mobile environments.

The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with the Ethics emphasis trains students to approach philosophical exploration with the rigor of analytic thinking, which goes beyond casual discussions based on opinion. Philosophy majors critically examine questions such as, ""How can I know for sure if what I believe is true?"" ""What sort of society is best?"" or ""Is morality whatever society says it is?"" Environmental Studies sheds light on the human dimensions of environmental issues. The interdisciplinary nature of this Bachelor of Arts makes the study of geography critical to understanding key factors affecting the environment in today's world. Distinguished faculty members teach courses about water, land use, food, energy, the built environment and climate related to both urban and rural areas. Students explore techniques for addressing pressing social science issues, but they study physical science techniques as well. With its own recording studio and a host of performance ensembles, the Fred Fox School of Music is one of the highest-ranked in the nation. Students seeking their Bachelor of Music in Performance with a String Bass emphasis take 89 units of music courses. In addition to choosing electives, students satisfy core classes in music literature, music history, pedagogy, orchestration, conducting, piano and applied lessons. As part of the requirements, they audition for placement in a large conducted ensemble, where they'll have the opportunity to perform with other high-caliber student musicians.

Food studies is a rapidly growing field in North America as the demand increases for experts in food-related policy, food justice and food culture. Students in this new Bachelor of Arts program (offered in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) prepare to become change-makers in the world's food system through an interdisciplinary approach to examining food in all its dimensions: cultural, economic, health and environmental. Urban and Regional Development is the study of economic development and sustainability of our built and natural environments. This Bachelor of Science addresses questions of urban and regional growth, location of economic activity, land development and real estate. Students learn to analyze data, use cartographic and geographic information systems and gain hands-on training in the field. Additionally, students learn interactively in remote-sensing laboratories. Upon graduation, they enter the workforce with directly applicable skills such as teamwork and collaboration; analytical research; a working knowledge of industry software; design; strategic thinking; and understanding of planning law and legislation.

The Bachelor of Science in Geography with a Physical Geography emphasis provides rigorous training in Earth and environmental science, emphasizing quantitative and scientific approaches to studying the physical environment. Students are encouraged to pursue internships and have access to research opportunities at renowned facilities and organizations, including Biosphere 2, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research and the Water Resources Research Center.
