If you're interested in environmental health, protection of natural resources, and safety for workers and communities, consider a Public Health major with an Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis. Public health professionals specializing in environmental and occupational health help protect communities and workers from health risks such as contaminates or hazardous living or working conditions. The University of Arizona's Bachelor of Science in Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Students choosing the Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis focus on environmental justice, public health preparedness, industrial impact, sanitation, and safety fundamentals. Undergraduates complement their coursework with an internship that provides them with professional public health experience. Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis students wishing to also earn their Master of Public Health can do so in an accelerated program.

Chemistry is the study of the properties and reactions of the natural and synthetic substances that constitute the world around us. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry brings together the disciplines of physics, materials science, medicine and biology to give students a strong theoretical background while teaching them how to apply that knowledge to a range of biological and physical systems. Coursework is enhanced by state-of-the-art research facilities with multi-user capabilities in computational chemistry, surface analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and photoelectron spectroscopy, and more. The field of health and human services is always in need of empathetic workers to serve as allies to individuals with disabilities. The Bachelor of Science in Education in Rehabilitation Studies and Services program at the University of Arizona teaches students the advocacy and empowerment skills required to fill vital community roles. Students graduate with thorough knowledge of the rehabilitation process and the skills needed to help individuals remove environmental barriers, gain equal access and achieve their goals. The program requires 34 credit hours and provides firsthand practice working on supervised casework in rehabilitation.

Food systems is the study of the food supply chain, which includes production, processing, distribution, and consumption as well as waste. Drivers of the food system include culture, economics, policy, and marketing, and the collective impact on outcomes including human and environmental health, food insecurity, and community food security. The Nutrition and Food Systems degree is an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the complexities of the food system from production to consumption and impact on human health, as well as challenges faced by the food system to develop sustainable solutions for producing, processing, delivering, and consuming safe, culturally desirable, nutritious, and economically and environmentally sustainable food. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is committed to training emerging leaders who will address grand challenges facing humanity, including management and preservation of precious and finite natural resources, and finding solutions to feed over 9 billion people by 2050.

A degree in Information Science and Technology helps students build the mathematical and computational foundation they need to analyze  and grow in the digital world. This Bachelor of Science leans more heavily on the technical side of information science, including requirements for higher math and specialized courses, than the Bachelor of Arts in Information Science in our program. Students take courses in advanced computing techniques, machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence and theories of new media. Paired with a minor or second major in computer science, math or business, this program equips students for professions that aim to shape the digital landscape, from data engineers to user experience (UX) designers.

Armed with an understanding of the soil-plant relationship, discover plant systems that maximize production, conserve resources and minimize environmental damage. The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Plant Systems has four tracks; students in the Agronomy track expand their knowledge of crop production. Plants are the foundation of biodiversity, global climate and the sustainability of the planet. As such, increased crop yields, reduced use of land and improved efficiency are key to healthy ecosystems and sustained human life. This interdisciplinary degree draws on coursework from basic and applied plant and soil science and features small classes and hands-on training. Students focus on developing low water use and disease-resistant plants that maximize crop yield and plant health in fields where land size constrains production.

The French and Francophone focus suits students with wide-ranging interests in French and Francophone studies to complete a French major without taking all courses in French. After completing the core requirements in French language, students take courses in the major that are taught in English. Students benefit from a diverse program, with coursework in language, literature and culture. There are also opportunities to study abroad in Paris, which is one of the oldest and most established study abroad programs at the University of Arizona.

Develop a comprehensive education in Arabic, from language proficiency to cultural knowledge of Arabic society, at one of the top programs in the U.S. Arabic studies introduce students to the richness and importance of Arabic culture. Offered by the School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies, this Bachelor of Arts program makes an excellent double major, preparing students for successful international careers. As students become proficient in Arabic - widely considered a critical language for the U.S. - they also learn dialects such as Moroccan and Egyptian. Additionally, students gain knowledge of Arabic society, arts and literature, with opportunities to study abroad in Arab-speaking countries.
