The Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies investigates the historical and contemporary experiences of Africana peoples and how they are shaped by gender, class, race and global conditions. Students choose from one of three emphases: African American History, Culture & Aesthetics; Comparative Global African Diaspora; or Performance, Media, & Digital Africana Studies. This interdisciplinary major gives students essential professional skills applicable to many careers, including the ability to understand people from any background; writing; critical thinking; public speaking; creativity; leadership; and initiative. Classes focus on literature, history, culture, film, technology, arts, politics and more. The program is a leader in digital learning and boasts the nation's first Hip-Hop minor. The study of American Indians and Alaska Natives establishes an understanding of the relationship between these communities and the U.S., and it sets the groundwork for a career in public policy, government and private business. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in American Indian Studies program explore history, cultural traditions (oral histories, literature, arts) and tribal governments. Students also learn the languages and examine the critical social and political issues in these communities. This holistic approach to studying the diverse native cultures in North America helps students develop a broad-reaching perspective of these important groups. If you have a strong interest in finance and analyzing information, consider majoring in Accounting in the University of Arizona's high-ranking Eller College of Management. Accountants compile, analyze and report financial data. Students wishing to earn their Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting must apply to the Eller College of Management, a separate process from admissions to the University of Arizona. Undergraduates must complete 21 accounting units and 30 professional core units. In their final semester, along with taking four required accounting courses, students immerse themselves in a capstone experience that's unique to them.
