Gain the knowledge to impact one of the world's most pressing social and environmental problems in food. Food studies is a rapidly growing field in North America as the demand increases for experts in food-related policy, food justice and food culture. Students in this new Bachelor of Arts program (offered in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) prepare to become change-makers in the world's food system through an interdisciplinary approach to examining food in all its dimensions: cultural, economic, health and environmental. Tucson is an ideal setting for food studies; it recently earned the coveted honor of a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and was the first city in the U.S. to gain the designation.

If you have a strong interest in finance and analyzing information, consider majoring in Accounting in the University of Arizona's high-ranking Eller College of Management. Accountants compile, analyze and report financial data. Students wishing to earn their Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting must apply to the Eller College of Management, a separate process from admissions to the University of Arizona. Undergraduates must complete 21 accounting units and 30 professional core units. In their final semester, along with taking four required accounting courses, students immerse themselves in a capstone experience that's unique to them. Accounting students can apply for several scholarships to support their journey through higher education. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Global Journalism equips students for careers in national and international news reporting. The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Plant Systems has four tracks; students in the Fresh Produce Safety track advance the latest methods for maintaining the safety of food one of the most important resources on Earth. In this Yuma-based program, students discover how production chains become contaminated with diseases, and learn Good Agricultural Practices for the harvest of leafy greens and fresh-vegetable food safety. Coursework provides insight into food safety issues, field risk assessments, facility sanitation and inspection processes. Students gain real-life experience in the applications of soil, water and plant sciences, including soil chemistry, plant nutrition and hydroponics.

Urban and Regional Development is the study of economic development and sustainability of our built and natural environments. This Bachelor of Science addresses questions of urban and regional growth, location of economic activity, land development and real estate. Students learn to analyze data, use cartographic and geographic information systems and gain hands-on training in the field. Additionally, students learn interactively in remote-sensing laboratories. Upon graduation, they enter the workforce with directly applicable skills such as teamwork and collaboration; analytical research; a working knowledge of industry software; design; strategic thinking; and understanding of planning law and legislation.
