Overview

Biomedical engineers develop medical technologies in areas such as biomaterials, biosensors, wearable devices and imaging systems to improve people's lives. The Biomedical Engineering Bachelor of Science is geared to students looking to combine strong engineering skills and knowledge of biological sciences. Individualized degree plans are organized around three main areas of study: biomaterials to support or replace damaged tissue, biomechanics for supporting anatomical movement, and biosensors and microtechnologies to improve disease detection and management. Most Biomedical Engineering majors do high-profile research with faculty and complete sponsored senior design projects, which help launch their careers or entry into medical or graduate school. The B.S. in Biomedical Engineering is an approved pre-med program.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The 3D and Extended Media emphasis in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art is grounded in an interdisciplinary understanding of traditional and experimental practice. Students who select the Bachelor of Science in Geosciences with an Earth, Oceans and Climate (EOC) emphasis are immersed in an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the planet. Students gain an understanding of the history of Earth's climate, global change, ocean science and modern climate dynamics. They learn scientific research skills and work with data and technology in the field and in the laboratory. EOC students participate in hands-on capstone research or field experience, typically in the latter part of their program. If you want to graduate with Russian language proficiency or study Russian at the graduate level, then the language-intensive track of the Russian major is for you. Students aspiring to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Russian have the Language Focused emphasis option for total language immersion. In addition to the required 23 units of rigorous language-based courses, students select seven units of historical- and cultural-based electives from the Russian and Slavic Studies Department. The department also offers opportunities to study abroad in Kazakhstan or Russia. The study of small microorganisms can make a difference on a big scale, including leading to lifesaving innovations. Embrace the unknown. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms and the role they play in human, animal and plant health. This Bachelor of Science offers students a base in modern biology, specifically how microorganisms interact with their surroundings. Coursework includes food safety and consumer health; plant pathology and microbiology; environmental microbiology; microbial genomics and biotechnology; and medical microbiology.
