Food studies is a rapidly growing field in North America as the demand increases for experts in food-related policy, food justice and food culture. Students in this new Bachelor of Arts program (offered in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) prepare to become change-makers in the world's food system through an interdisciplinary approach to examining food in all its dimensions: cultural, economic, health and environmental. Tucson is an ideal setting for food studies; it recently earned the coveted honor of a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and was the first city in the U.S. to gain the designation.

Take your love of sports beyond the scoreboard by honing an understanding of the complex systems in social, economic, racial or otherwise at play. The Bachelor of General Studies with a Sports and Society emphasis examines the broader economic, political, religious, cultural, ethnic and social systems that apply to the world of sports. Coursework helps students grasp theories regarding teams and group dynamics in sports. This includes issues related to cultural, gender and socioeconomic diversity, as well as those related to the role that sports plays in society. Students gain fundamental skills in economics, accounting and general management theory, plus a finely tuned ability to evaluate multiple perspectives on social and cultural change as they relate to sports.

Interested in knowing what it takes to create sustainable communities today and for future generations? Learn about it all, from urban planning to land development. The Sustainable Communities Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program guides students to discover how local and regional planning creates more sustainable communities. Students explore climate action planning, transportation planning and urban development and build critical thinking skills and a solutions-based approach to navigate the urban challenges of the present and future. Students also learn how planning impacts and is influenced by the environment, and how to make cities more sustainable and resilient. This program prepares students to begin careers in sustainable communities and also serves as a strong launchpad for graduate studies.

Develop a comprehensive education in Arabic, from language proficiency to cultural knowledge of Arabic society, at one of the top programs in the U.S. Arabic studies introduce students to the richness and importance of Arabic culture. Offered by the School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies, this Bachelor of Arts program makes an excellent double major, preparing students for successful international careers. As students become proficient in Arabic - widely considered a critical language for the U.S. - they also learn dialects such as Moroccan and Egyptian. Additionally, students gain knowledge of Arabic society, arts and literature, with opportunities to study abroad in Arab-speaking countries. Students seeking a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Voice emphasis gain instruction and mentorship from faculty members who regularly perform with major ensemble and opera companies. The Fred Fox School of Music ranks among the nation's top musical institutions. Classes include voice, music reading, diction for singers and more. As part of their conducted large-ensemble requirement, vocalists usually begin by singing in the University Singers/Kantorei and Honor Choir. Then they progress to the Symphonic Choir and even The Arizona Choir. Students also have access to the school's recording studio.

Become a leader in historic preservation and learn about the importance of heritage conservation to preserve and create more sustainable built environments.Students in the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program with a Heritage Conservation Emphasis explore the value of historic structures and landscapes and the reasons for preserving and adapting them. The faculty bring a breadth of experience and depth of expertise to coursework, teaching students how the preservation and adaptation of historic structures advances environmental, cultural and economic sustainability. Students learn the processes and protocols of conservation as well as current issues in historic preservation and resource management. Graduates are prepared for careers as managers at nonprofit organizations, leaders of government agencies, and consultants in heritage conservation and historic preservation.

The study of world religions offers you a deeper understanding of global cultures and belief systems to address life's biggest questions. Religion has been a central force in world history, and it continues to play a powerful role in the human experience. The Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies provides students with a broad understanding of human diversity, the complexities of social and cultural systems of thought, and the human pursuit of meaning. Coursework examines the dynamic traditions of world religions, the role of religion in global politics, the relationship of religion and science, and the religious dimensions of art and culture. Combined with core academic skills in written and oral communication, the Religious Studies degree prepares students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers in the 21st century.

Big data is changing the world. Offered through the Department of Mathematics, this degree prepares you to take part in the data revolution. Students earning a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Statistics and Data Science will have a solid foundation in mathematics. Yet they focus on the capture, maintenance, processing, analysis and communication of data through immersion in courses in probability, statistics, data science and computer programming. Undergraduates also must complete a minor outside the Department of Mathematics. The B.A. and B.S. allow students to pursue graduate degrees or careers in analytics, risk assessment, finance, and other math- and science-related fields.
