Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Our planet is more than meets the eye. Explore the history of Earth's climate, global change, ocean science and modern climate dynamics. Students who select the Bachelor of Science in Geosciences with an Earth, Oceans and Climate (EOC) emphasis are immersed in an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the planet. Students gain an understanding of the history of Earth's climate, global change, ocean science and modern climate dynamics. They learn scientific research skills and work with data and technology in the field and in the laboratory. EOC students participate in hands-on capstone research or field experience, typically in the latter part of their program. The Conservation Biology emphasis in the Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources encourages students to study conservation across taxa (invertebrates, vertebrates, plants, fungi, microbes) and across scientific disciplines such as ecology, genetics and evolution. The program of study also includes coursework in policy, planning and economics. Students acquire highly desirable science and social-science skills and real-world experiences to pursue careers as conservation biologists, conservation planners, environmental educators, researchers, natural resource managers and ecologists. The Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Fisheries Conservation and Management focuses on the ecology of aquatic systems, including the study of their biology, their relationships with each other and humans, and the physical and biological environments that are their habitat. Fishery biologists develop strategies to maintain biodiversity and habitat, help rare and endangered species to recover, manage populations of harvested animals, enforce laws, monitor plant and animal populations, manage refuges and hatcheries, design and implement research projects, eliminate invasive species, develop computer models and educate the public.
