Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. When students embark on a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Ideas and Methods, they focus on theoretical questions that lead to real-world change. Students explore the processes, principles and structures of government and political institutions in the U.S. and in countries around the globe. Coursework covers international relations, political theory, foreign affairs, methodology and institutions, and includes hands-on internship opportunities at nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Students graduate with important writing, critical thinking and analytical skills.

Students earning the Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering collaborate with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and several College of Engineering degree programs. The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry uses chemistry as a tool to examine the molecular processes of life. Biochemistry is at the core of life sciences, and biochemical knowledge provides the underpinning for a variety of disciplines, from medicine to agriculture to engineering. In this program, students take coursework from award-winning faculty whose research and expertise include diverse specialties: protein structure and function, molecular genetics, medicinal biochemistry, optics, physics and more. Students hone communication and presentation skills; learn report writing, analytical thinking and research methods; and develop proficiency in mathematics and information technology. The Bachelor of Science in Anthropology with an emphasis in Human Biology helps students forge a path in various roles in the fields of human and animal medicine: doctor, nurse, midwife, veterinarian, zoologist. As a science degree, coursework includes classes such as biology and chemistry. In its most basic form, the study of anthropology centers on the question of what it means to be human. Students not only acquire the science-based skills of conducting research and engaging in critical thinking, but they also learn to communicate cross-culturally and understand contemporary social issues and and in one of the top anthropology programs in the country.

Aerospace engineers advance space exploration and improve aircraft design. Aerospace and defense is one of the strongest industrial sectors in the United States; Arizona is a significant player, and the University of Arizona is a major pipeline for aerospace engineers. Students in the Aerospace Engineering Bachelor of Science program learn to design and maintain spacecraft, commercial aircraft, fighter jets, missiles, rockets and satellites. They graduate with working knowledge of aerodynamics, control system design, gas dynamics, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. Undergraduates complete industry-sponsored capstone projects, some of which become commercial products. They also have opportunities to test materials in the university's array of wind tunnels ?the newest of which shoots air at Mach 4 and Mach 5 to study the effects of flight at hypersonic speeds.

Students must first complete 18 units of foundational psychology coursework within the Pre-Psychological Science requirements. They then advance from the pre-major to the full major to complete an additional 27 units of coursework and psychological research with faculty. The B.S. degree prepares undergraduates for a Ph.D. in Psychology and other advanced studies and careers that require a robust understanding of science and research methods.

The field of ecology and evolutionary biology deals with the integration of biological systems across all levels of organization, from molecular biology to global ecosystems. This Bachelor of Science is for the student planning to pursue graduate study or a career in ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related scientific field. The Bachelor of Arts prepares students for careers that require having scientific knowledge, such as scientific journalism, developing environmental and scientific policy or practicing law in related fields. The curriculum includes core courses in genetics, ecology and evolution, with additional study through involvement in independent research, usually by working in the labs of our faculty. The Bachelor of Arts major in Italian with a Language and Literature emphasis offers an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on the study of the Italian language. In this program one of the largest Italian programs in the country students acquire a high level of proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Italian. In addition to the study of language, coursework covers the literary and artistic aspects of Italian culture and their contributions to the world; milestones and major events in Italian history; and modern Italian culture, current events and politics.
