The Fred Fox School of Music offers coursework in which students receive intensive private instruction in music composition in traditional and electro-acoustic media from award-winning faculty members. In addition, students take classes in music theory, improvisation, music history, orchestration and conducting. The faculty strives to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the aesthetics of musical design and the operations of creators, performers and listeners as they use music to shape their world.

Whether it's classical, jazz, marching or mariachi, the Fred Fox School of Music provides a wealth of performance opportunities for trumpet students. Those seeking their Bachelor of Music in Performance with a Trumpet emphasis hone their skills by taking private lessons with trumpet professors who are active performers. Students also participate in the school's orchestras, wind bands, jazz ensembles, jazz combos and other chamber ensembles. Core requirements include classes in music literature, piano, conducting and history. Several jazz offerings such as improvisation and arranging are offered for all music students.

Explore the concepts of ecology and genetics in an evolutionary context in the first department of its kind in the world. The field of ecology and evolutionary biology deals with the integration of biological systems across all levels of organization, from molecular biology to global ecosystems. This Bachelor of Science is for the student planning to pursue graduate study or a career in ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related scientific field. The Bachelor of Arts prepares students for careers that require having scientific knowledge, such as scientific journalism, developing environmental and scientific policy or practicing law in related fields. The curriculum includes core courses in genetics, ecology and evolution, with additional study through involvement in independent research, usually by working in the labs of our faculty. The Animal Sciences Bachelor of Science offers an Equine emphasis. Equine science is the study of horses and their care. During this program, students acquire practical, hands-on equine handling techniques; learn about equine nutrition, physiology and anatomy; and develop business strategy skills. Additional skills honed include critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and a basic understanding of business principles and how they apply to equine enterprises. This program equips students for careers in equine health, industry sales, equine management, research and teaching. Faculty and mentors associated with the program challenge students to apply their studies to address real-world challenges in the animal industry and agribusiness.

Classes in phonetics, morphosyntax, sociolinguistics and more teach students how the brain formulates and organizes Spanish. Students who select the Bachelor of Science in Geosciences with an Earth, Oceans and Climate (EOC) emphasis are immersed in an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the planet. Students gain an understanding of the history of Earth's climate, global change, ocean science and modern climate dynamics. They learn scientific research skills and work with data and technology in the field and in the laboratory. EOC students participate in hands-on capstone research or field experience, typically in the latter part of their program. Graduates pursue careers in environmental geology and scientific research in fields such as oceanography, climate science, surficial processes, paleoclimate, paleoecology and more.
