Overview

Identify important strategies, such as green infrastructure and water harvesting, that we can employ to design innovative and sustainable landscapes. The importance of the role that landscapes play in the built environment is at the center of the Sustainable Landscapes Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program. Students learn about environmental design, planning and management challenges and how to overcome them. Students study subjects such as water harvesting, passive cooling, urban heat island mitigation, climate adaptability, and how landscapes can improve human health. They also explore urban ecology, natural resource management and environmental policy. Upon graduation, students have a deeper understanding of how landscapes play a pivotal role in a community and the ways to make them more sustainable.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Learn how this undergraduate degree provides an excellent foundation for a broad range of career paths, including communication sciences, health care and education. Undergraduates in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) study all aspects of communication sciences and disorders across the life span. The coursework is designed to foster development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills and enhances students' ability to evaluate scientific information. Students also have opportunities to participate in experiential activities such as research labs and clinical observation in an on-site speech, language and hearing clinic. Do you have visionary ideas for sustainable development? Does your mind work in analytical ways? Are you a fearless innovator? This program is for you. Urban and Regional Development is the study of economic development and sustainability of our built and natural environments. This Bachelor of Science addresses questions of urban and regional growth, location of economic activity, land development and real estate. Students learn to analyze data, use cartographic and geographic information systems and gain hands-on training in the field. Additionally, students learn interactively in remote-sensing laboratories. Upon graduation, they enter the workforce with directly applicable skills such as teamwork and collaboration; analytical research; a working knowledge of industry software; design; strategic thinking; and understanding of planning law and legislation.

Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences with Emphasis in Dietetics

Be on the front lines of helping people live healthier, happier lives. Thanks to important new research in disease prevention, the field of nutrition is growing. The Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences is a science-heavy approach to nutritional therapies and human health and well-being. The program offers two areas of study. Students in the Dietetics emphasis take courses in medical nutrition therapy, community nutrition, nutrition counseling and food service management. Students are eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietetic Technicians after graduating to earn the Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered credential. Beginning January 1, 2024, students must have earned a master's degree in order to sit for the RDN exam.

Delve into the complex world of information systems and computational methods, and transform data into the real-world information humans use every day. A degree in Information Science and Technology helps students build the mathematical and computational foundation they need to analyze  and grow in the digital world. This Bachelor of Science leans more heavily on the technical side of information science, including requirements for higher math and specialized courses, than the Bachelor of Arts in Information Science in our program. Students take courses in advanced computing techniques, machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence and theories of new media. Paired with a minor or second major in computer science, math or business, this program equips students for professions that aim to shape the digital landscape, from data engineers to user experience (UX) designers.

Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. In the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program with a Law and Public Policy emphasis, students prepare for a career as a change-maker in law, as a government official as they study not only the foundations of political theory, institutions, international relations, foreign affairs and more, but also the how-to of making policy and progress happen.
