The Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Human Development prepares students for careers and graduate training in a variety of fields, such as human services, social policy, community and public health, counseling, social work, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, gerontology, child/elder advocacy, criminal justice/law, and child life specialist professions. Students explore topics such as adolescence, child development, family relationships, mental health, counseling and youth programs in both traditional classroom settings and real-world situations. During the program, each student partners with faculty to acquire firsthand experience working with families and individuals in many contexts. Additionally, the program offers a network of community agencies that provide internships and hands-on learning to ensure that, upon graduation, students are well equipped to meet challenges head-on.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human nature to set the stage for life-changing and society-affecting innovations. Sociology studies the ways social structures and interactions shape human life. In this Bachelor of Arts major, students gain deep knowledge of society's origins, its functions and its problems, focusing on relations among people, groups, organizations and cultures. Graduates walk away adept at quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as with strong interview skills and sharply honed writing abilities. Many students use a Sociology major as the base for careers in law, health or social services, while others employ it as a launch pad for graduate work as a professional sociologist in research organizations or educational institutions.

In the Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in Arts, Media and Entertainment, students analyze the roles that arts, entertainment, amusement and media play in modern and historical societies. Coursework teaches students how to do the following: develop skills in criticism and evaluation of art; identify the contributions of artists and art forms to the human condition; understand how art, media and entertainment shape, and are shaped by, cultural norms; understand the processes by which creativity is communicated; build knowledge of promotion and marketing in the arts; and develop and identify their own strengths, interests and contributions to the arts.

Psychological science is the study of the mind and brain and how these influence human actions with an emphasis on psychological research. Coursework includes the study of development, learning, personality, memory, perception, consciousness, sexuality, love, spirituality and more. Undergraduates learn fundamental principles and concepts of psychology and crucial problem-solving skills relevant to research. Students must first complete 18 units of foundational psychology coursework within the Pre-Psychological Science requirements. They then advance from the pre-major to the full major to complete an additional 27 units of coursework and psychological research with faculty. The B.S. degree prepares undergraduates for a Ph.D. in Psychology and other advanced studies and careers that require a robust understanding of science and research methods.

Students pursuing an emphasis in Sustainable Buildings within the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program explore the science and practice the techniques behind building energy efficiency. Hands-on coursework includes such topics as climate-responsive design, net-zero energy design, energy conservation, passive solar design and natural ventilation systems. In this interdisciplinary program, students learn how to analyze existing and planned structures and use critical-thinking skills and solutions-based strategies to create workable plans to make those buildings more efficient. Students graduate with a practical understanding of sustainability principles and expertise in built environment policy and design.
