Invasive cardiovascular technologists operate sophisticated imaging and patient monitoring equipment while working with the cardiologist, who performs procedures on patients, leading to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart disease and peripheral vascular disease. Using x-ray (fluoroscopy) and patient monitoring equipment, invasive cardiovascular technology (ICVT):

• Assist with percutaneous revascularization
• Operate cardiac assist pumps, patient monitoring and imaging equipment
• Monitor patient condition before, during and after procedure
• Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of the patient

Invasive cardiovascular technologists work directly with critically ill inpatients and outpatients of adult and geriatric ages, often performing invasive procedures. They work in a sterile environment, where they manipulate x-ray equipment to acquire images, sit at computer console to monitor vital signs and stand, sometimes for long periods of time, to assist the cardiologist during catheterization. The equipment invasive cardiovascular technologists work with requires that they wear lead aprons.

The four-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (B.S.) program allows students to focus on a field allied to the profession of architecture. After common first-year studios that lay the foundation for visual thinking, students will select two minors based upon their areas of academic and professional interest. The College of Architecture and the Built Environment offers an array of minors that allow Architectural Studies students to customize their education and earn a degree with a pre-professional design emphasis with a liberal arts focus. Contemporary architecture encompasses a number of discrete, though intersecting, disciplines and requires individuals trained to fill a variety of roles beyond that of designer. The M.S. in Taxation Program at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) is geared toward practicing accountants in the fields of public, corporate, and governmental accounting as well as lawyers, financial managers and planners who need extensive information and formal study in taxation. The program teaches cutting-edge technical textile processes to students with science or engineering backgrounds. Courses focus on fibrous material product development and characterization, and teach techniques such as fabric formation, product development, and product testing. The program familiarizes students with hands-on experience with weaving, knitting, nonwoven and composites equipment in the innovative Fashion and Textiles Futures Center on the East Falls campus.

A capstone thesis experience is required at the completion of program.

Jefferson’s M.S. in Geospatial Technology for Geodesign leverages GIS and advanced geospatial technologies in identifying and finding innovative solutions to urban design and urban planning problems. Emphasizing GIS-based tools, 3D parametric design and modeling, sustainable design approaches, collaboration and innovation within an integrated process, this STEM-designated graduate program is intended to empower students to find resilient solutions to 21st century urban challenges resulting from population growth, decreasing resources, natural disasters, and climate change. Geodesign is sustainability in practice, and our graduates are leaders in this innovative field.

Geospatial technology for geodesign students are directly involved in collaborative applied research projects with industry partners, state and federal agencies, and community partnerships. They work with advanced technologies including parametric 3D modeling, spatial data collection using emerging technologies such as LiDAR, UAVs (drones), UAV-based photogrammetry, advanced geospatial mobile applications, and BIM while they help develop and test new tools that inform future industry software. Graduates possess highly sought-after GIS skills and are well prepared for dynamic careers in interdisciplinary firms, state and federal agencies, NGOs, academia and more.

The MS in Geospatial Technology for Geodesign is a 36-credit post professional degree open to those interested in GIS and the allied design disciplines: architecture, landscape architecture, planning and engineering, as well as students with backgrounds or interest in GIS. Classes are offered on a full-time or part-time basis and are held in the evenings and Saturdays in order to meet the needs of our professional students.

The MS Program in Forensic Biology is an exclusive program designed to position students for advancement and professional development in the specific field of forensic biology.

This is a full-time, two-year program with courses taught at both the Jefferson Center City campus as well as at The Center for Forensic Science Research & Education laboratory in Willow Grove, PA.  One of the aspects which sets our forensic biology program apart from other universities is that students will be working adjacent to a fully-functioning, ISO-17025 accredited, private DNA laboratory. Instead of spending the duration of the program in a classroom, Jefferson  students will be learning within an actual forensic laboratory and working alongside practicing scientists who serve as faculty and mentors. This teaching setting allows our students to engage first-hand in crime lab operation, offering an unparalleled educational experience.

Our specialized program will provide students with expertise in all areas of forensic biology, including:

• Serological Identification of Biological Fluids & Tissues
• Forensic DNA Analysis & Interpretation
• Molecular Biology & Genetics

Another unique aspect of our program is the highly focused curriculum specifically tailored to focus on the biological aspects of the forensic sciences. Our program allows access to the same instrumentation currently used in the nation’s top crime labs, a guaranteed internship, career readiness training, and business management and leadership coursework to help prepare future leaders in forensic science.  Overall, the curricular content more than exceeds the requirements set forth by the Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories which require 12 undergraduate and graduate credits on topics including biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and statistics for laboratory technical leaders.
