The M.S. in Textile Design at Thomas Jefferson University offers an integrated, collaborative and proven curriculum that blends aesthetic, creative skills with emerging technologies. In studios and classrooms, students turn innovative ideas into original products.

State-of-the-art facilities, including The Center for Excellence of Digital Printing, electronic jacquard and dobby looms, computerized knitting machines, and extensive computer-aided design laboratories enable students to put professional skills into practice. The Design studio courses make up the majority of the coursework in the MS program and design research is stressed from the beginning.

Graduate students select either knit, print or weave as their area of concentration and the courses are taught by active members of the textile design field: artists, design directors, authors and researchers. Visiting artists and guest lecturers expand the educational experience, bringing real-world applications to the classroom experience.
Partnerships with industry, nexus learning sponsored projects, national and international design competitions and exhibitions at international trade shows provide practical experience as students prepare for graduation.

The Jefferson Textile Design program is enhanced by study abroad opportunities and a strong internship program. The M.S. in Interior Architecture is a 49 or 69-credit graduate program structured to meet the needs of students from both non-design, design and architecture backgrounds seeking one of the best professional-level education in interior design/interior architecture. The program offers up to one year of advanced standing for those already in the field who are interested in refining their knowledge and skills at the graduate level. This program prepares students to reach their full potential, whether seeking an introduction or building on previous experience.

As an Interior Architecture program, we emphasize how the interior environment encompasses all parts of the interior volume and acknowledges the intersection between architecture and interiors. The curriculum integrates theory with the technical skills needed for practical application and immerses students in current technologies and sustainable practice as they work collaboratively and think critically to discover innovative solutions. Jefferson's active, collaborative approach to education in our Nexus Learning model is the foundation of this program’s curriculum. In a hands-on learning environment, students examine new fashion designs, ideas and technologies to create viable business models and market-driven innovation. In addition to the 22 core credit hours, the MSGFE program culminates in 9 credits of Global Fashion Project courses. This unique experience allows for significant customization for students to meet career aspirations. In these courses, students from disparate backgrounds work in teams to find new product or system opportunities, then design and prototype functional products or systems that answer the requirements of their research findings. Students also benefit from the projects by working directly with successful fashion and apparel companies. Regular meetings with outside project stakeholders take place to give students networking opportunities that may translate into exciting internship and employment opportunities.

The groundbreaking M.S. in International Fashion Design Management program is developed to create the next generation of fashion professionals for a complex global fashion system. Students are invited to create their own path, and customize the experience to focus on different tracks with global opportunities right at their fingertips. By moving beyond the hand-crafted approach to fashion, students will have the opportunity to focus on design as a strategic function, integrated along the cycle of research and design, product development, branding and distribution.

This 30-credit degree offers flexible hybrid and virtual components. During the final semester, students participate in an outbound experience, which is student led and faculty advised to allow students to research and study in any region in the world. Students select a mentor and location, and determine the length of their stay in that region to offer more flexibility. During the final semester, participants create a project that demonstrates topic mastery through synthesis of knowledge and skills inspired from their previous coursework.

The Jefferson Communication program prepares students for today’s media marketplace through a broad-based education that emphasizes storytelling, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and multimedia skills development.

The Interior Design Program at Jefferson is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and a top ranked undergraduate program in the U.S. Known for our excellence in interior design education we prepare graduates for successful careers in the evolving global marketplace. Our mission is to prepare students to be independent thinkers, innovative problem solvers, collaborators and leaders with high standards of professionalism, integrity and excellence in design. With an emphasis on creativity, balanced with the knowledge and skills required for meaningful contributions to the interior design profession, we instill in students an understanding of the global, cultural, social, aesthetic, technoligical, environmental and ethical responsibilities inherent to the design of interior environments.

The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program is grounded in the belief that the interior designer mediates between the human experience and the built environment and should enter the global marketplace as articulate, creative, inspired and socially aware design professionals. The program integrates collaborative, interdisciplinary and study abroad opporunities broadening students' knowledge and abilities. Our Philadelphia location provides a multitued of options for internships, memberships in professional organizations, and partnerships with community organizations and industry professionals, all of which give our students a unique advantage with real-world hands-on experience.

The new transformational (12 months) 36-credit Master’s Degree Program in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering will be delivered at the Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) and is ideal for employment focused graduates with first degrees in Life Sciences and Engineering.

The Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) is a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art facility designed for the training of industry professionals, as well as the education of the next generation of scientists and engineers interested in pursuing rewarding careers in biomanufacturing. Biopharmaceutical Processing is a rapidly growing industry focused on the development of robust processes to manufacture high value biologics and advanced therapeutics for patients with debilitating and life limiting diseases that affect millions of patients worldwide, such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.

Training and education in biopharmaceutical processing are exceptionally laboratory intensive. At JIB our students spend less time in traditional classroom settings and more time in JIB’s pilot-scale facility fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and processes used by industry to manufacture biopharmaceuticals.

For the hybrid option, the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 schedule for courses requiring the completion of on-site hands-on laboratory related coursework will be available prior to the start of each respective semester. In each instance, the on-site coursework will be scheduled in continuous late-semester blocks to avoid the necessity of frequent travel.

Radiation Therapy, also known as x-ray therapy, is part of radiation oncology. Radiation Therapists use linear accelerators to administer radiation to treat cancer. They work closely with the medical dosimetrist, radiation oncologist and radiation physicist. People in this profession work in fast-paced environments, stand for most of day and move and lift patients to and from treatment rooms.

Radiation Therapists work directly with critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. A Radiation Therapist must be able to:

• Administer, record, and interpret cancer treatment prescribed by radiation oncologists
• Easily adapt to stressful environment
• Know about alternate imaging concentrations
• Work in small teams
• Learn to use different imaging techniques
• Manage side effects of treatment

Our Radiation Therapy Concentration is one of few Radiation Therapy Programs on the East Coast that offers Virtual Environment Radiotherapy Training (VERT) for student training. VERT is a life-size replica of a real linear accelerator used by radiation therapists to treat cancer patients. Students learn key skills by controlling the virtual machine with real controls. 3D visualization of patient images, organs, treatment beams and dose makes complex theoretical concepts easy to understand. Our students also use CT scanners and high energy linear accelerators of ionizing radiation.

Medical Dosimetry is part of radiation oncology. Under the direction of a medical physicist, Medical Dosimetrists utilize dedicated computers to design and calculate radiation plans for the treatment of cancer. A CT scan of the patient generates data which will be used in the treatment planning process. The dosimetrists work closely with the physician, physicist and radiation therapist.  People in this profession typically work nine hour workdays, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., mainly working at a console, with a highly specialized computer.

Medical Dosimetrists work directly with critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. In addition to the actual treatment planning, the dosimetrists may assist in the fabrication of beam modifying and immobilization devices individualized for each patient.

According to Mark Reid, past president of the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD), the demand for medical dosimetrists grows every time a new cancer center opens, making dosimetry a stable, well-compensated career.

The Fashion Merchandising and Management Program at Jefferson features an immersive, career-focused curriculum that prepares students to contribute to all aspects of the fashion value chain.
