The M.S. in Architecture program is an advanced post-professional, research- based degree, featuring two concentrations: Façade Design and Technology and High Performance Building. This degree prepares students for specialist and consulting positions in the broad field of the built environment in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.

Recognizing that the architecture profession is constantly changing, the program is designed to fit current industry needs and is adaptable as requirements and expertise evolves. As a student in this program, you will have the opportunity to focus your studies on a specific area of architecture to directly apply your research to your current work or to fit your career path. The MS provides its graduates with an additional credential that enables them to pursue research and entrepreneurial practices, careers in academia or expand the knowledge of the profession. It is expected that students will have previous experience in the technical and professional aspects of building design with a degree in architecture, engineering or other related field. The typical program length is three or four semesters.

Interdisciplinary Studies majors become effective professionals who are skilled communicators and solvers of complex social, civic, and professional issues—in local, national or global contexts. Through experience in a variety of liberal arts and professional methodologies, you will become a skilled researcher and thinker who not only knows where to look for information but also is able to assess how to apply disciplinary strengths in innovative ways to a variety of existing and emerging professions.

The new transformational (12 months) 36-credit Master’s Degree Program in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering will be delivered at the Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) and is ideal for employment focused graduates with first degrees in Life Sciences and Engineering.

The Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) is a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art facility designed for the training of industry professionals, as well as the education of the next generation of scientists and engineers interested in pursuing rewarding careers in biomanufacturing. Biopharmaceutical Processing is a rapidly growing industry focused on the development of robust processes to manufacture high value biologics and advanced therapeutics for patients with debilitating and life limiting diseases that affect millions of patients worldwide, such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.

Training and education in biopharmaceutical processing are exceptionally laboratory intensive. At JIB our students spend less time in traditional classroom settings and more time in JIB’s pilot-scale facility fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and processes used by industry to manufacture biopharmaceuticals.

For the hybrid option, the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 schedule for courses requiring the completion of on-site hands-on laboratory related coursework will be available prior to the start of each respective semester. In each instance, the on-site coursework will be scheduled in continuous late-semester blocks to avoid the necessity of frequent travel.

Thomas Jefferson University’s Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) is a five-year professional degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Students receive an industry-centered, liberal arts-infused education, blending academic scholarship with hands-on, professional learning. The program encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, and most of our faculty members are practicing industry professionals. As architectural practices evolve rapidly to meet new environmental, economic and societal challenges, our curriculum’s unique focus on market-driven innovation and sustainability gives students a competitive advantage in the industry. Students learn essential research skills and can take focused courses in experimental structures and materials, furniture design, design theory, construction management, historic preservation, business, and more. Instruction goes beyond the classroom to include industry partnerships, community engagement projects, study abroad, and internships with architectural firms in Philadelphia. As a transformative force in professional education, Jefferson gives students a working knowledge of the industry so they may contribute to a firm immediately, present work professionally, and think critically. Graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles as stewards of sustainability and to work with top firms worldwide.

Medical laboratory scientists work behind the scenes in laboratories to provide clinicians with test results needed to diagnose, treat, and manage their patients’ conditions. Blood, body fluids, and other patient specimens are analyzed using manual methods and state-of-the-art instrumentation to test for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, infection, anemia, and leukemia.

One of our strengths is our close-knit community, and that is by design. Faculty work closely with all VDC students as they progress through a series of 8 core design studios. This begins with design foundations, and progresses through courses in typography, user experience, branding, digital strategy, systems design, and culminates with a self-authored, senior design capstone project and portfolio.

The program provides training in a diverse combination of skills, including a strong understanding of design principles, typography and image making, the capacity to plan and design for human-centered products, interactions and experiences, an ability to harness the latest digital technologies and experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary environments.

In our stimulating and supportive environment, you will build a strong foundation in sciences and humanities, preparing you for success in upper-division courses in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.

As a student in this program, you will complete two years of pre-professional coursework with other pre-medical and health students on Jefferson’s East Falls Campus. In late fall of your second year, you will interview and begin the process of working with faculty to select concentrations in the medical imaging and radiation sciences professional program. Students who interview and maintain progression criteria are guaranteed to matriculate into the professional phase. Jefferson’s academic advisors and faculty work closely with our students on course selection and academic performance to ensure that each student is on pace to transition into the professional phase of the program.

The Health Sciences Program includes a team of specialized advisors with first-hand insight in health and medical fields, who understand the academic pathway from college application through professional practice. Our advisors will help you to stay on track throughout your education, helping you to maximize opportunities to pursue the field that will best fit your strengths and interests, from undergraduate course selection through graduate or doctoral placement.

Computed Tomography (CT) technologists use x-ray technology to take cross-sectional images of the body. CT technologists operate CT scanners, picture archiving and communication systems and related equipment. They dispense oral contrast to patients, perform venipuncture, evaluate CT scans for quality and accuracy, assist radiologist with special procedures and provide care for the psychological and physical needs of the patient.

They have direct contact with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all all ages, lifting them to and from the exam table, and positioning them correctly for the tests, but generally work at computers in small, low-lit rooms.

Our Computed Tomography courses are available online and on-site for:

• Advanced placement students who have RT(R), RT(T), RT(N), CNMT or ARRT/NMTCB eligibility and 50 prerequisite credits
• Second year Dual-Concentration students who took radiography, radiation therapy or nuclear medicine in the first year
• Part-time Computed Tomography BS students who have RT(R), RT(T), RT(N), CNMT or ARRT/NMTCB eligibility and 50 prerequisite credits

Cardiac sonographers, also known as echocardiographers, use ultrasound to examine the heart's chambers, walls, valves and vessels. They use technology such as sophisticated diagnostic ultrasound imaging machines and transducers that use high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images to complete important tasks, such as:

• Acquiring information related to the heart's anatomy and physiology
• Producing real-time images of cardiac structures to assist the physician in diagnosing cardiovascular disease
• Evaluating acquired and congenital cardiac abnormalities and associated complications
• Evaluating narrowed or leaking heart valves
• Looking for causes of murmurs, chest pain, shortness of breath
• Tracking and evaluating chronic heart conditions

Cardiac sonographers work directly with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages in predominantly noninvasive procedures, carried out in small, low-lit rooms. They stand or sit beside the patient, who is on a stretcher, exam table or wheelchair. Sometimes the cardiac sonographer will transport a portable ultrasound to a patient's room and perform the test there.
