When you come to Thomas Jefferson University, you join a fashion design program that is modeled on the fashion industry and you should prepare to immerse yourself in the world of fashion. Our alumni work as fashion professionals in all areas and levels of the fashion industry, following in the footsteps of our distinguished faculty who have served as leaders in both the design and production sides of the fashion industry. The Master of Urban Design – Future Cities (MUD) educates the next generation of urban designers, architects and researchers in the development of sustainable, healthy and smart cities and communities. Focused on envisioning the future, the program spotlights pressing contemporary issues with far-reaching consequences, such as the need to develop urban resiliency and carbon neutral communities and to harness the potential of smart technologies to achieve environmental wellness on multiple scales in response to rapid urbanization and climate change. Students have the opportunity to acquire new and valuable skills and benefit from state-of-the-art research at regional and transnational levels, thereby fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity through knowledge exchange and multidisciplinary learning.

The unique focus of MUD on contemporary urban issues such as urban resiliency, carbon-neutral communities, wellness, and smart technologies differentiates Jefferson’s program. Collaboration with the Jefferson Institute for Smart and Healthy Cities offers students unparalleled opportunities for research and industry experience.

Ranked 7th in the U.S. and 4th in the East by DesignIntelligence, the M.S. in Industrial Design is a professional program based on interdisciplinary project work. In this program, you will learn to design effectively at the collaborative and chaotic “front end” of the product-development process. You will work with product users, researchers, businesspeople, engineers and manufacturers to create products and systems that are better at serving their users, societies and the world at large.

We like busy people, because busy people are ambitious, curious people. Many of our courses are taught in the afternoon and evening, to allow flexible scheduling for students who have outside obligations.

Our Four Areas of Focus

Our students are smart, curious and diverse, with undergraduate backgrounds as disparate as economics, philosophy, technology education, mechanical engineering and architecture, as well as some with undergraduate ID degrees. International students are warmly welcomed.

The M.S. in Industrial Design will prepare you for entrepreneurial work in the field, or for a position in a corporate design department or design consulting firm.

The Master of Science in Clinical Research was created to prepare students for the wide array of career opportunities in the clinical research industry. This program is well suited for career changers with a background in life, physical or clinical sciences that would like to break into the field of clinical research. It is also appropriate for individuals already in the industry and looking for additional graduate-level training.

The field of clinical research is rapidly expanding and knowledgeable professionals are needed to coordinate, manage, and administer clinical trials. This master of science degree will provide students with the foundation needed to be successful in the field of clinical research.

Students completing the MS in Clinical Research will:

• Understand the experimental design, statistical analysis and interpretation, and regulatory and ethical issues pertaining to human clinical research and trials.
• Be able to read, understand, and critique published reports of clinical trials.
• Acquire management skills that will enable them to successfully manage multi-disciplinary teams involved in clinical research projects.
• Be prepared for employment in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as academic and hospital clinical research settings.

The Jefferson Master of Architecture Program is a first-professional graduate program designed to prepare students for professional architectural practice through the development of sustainable design and technology skills, knowledge of project management, and collaborative experiences in an interdisciplinary environment. The program is located within easy access to Center City Philadelphia with its rich collection of major historical and contemporary buildings. Philadelphia also provides an ongoing laboratory for many of our courses and opportunities for internships.

The MArch Program offers multiple starting tracks. Your track will be individually decided based on your level of preparedness. The selection committee will consider your educational background, experience and portfolio. While each applicant is reviewed individually, these are the typical tracks:

• Students without a degree in a design discipline will typically begin the program with a 2-course summer program in design basics, before beginning the fall semester.
• Students with a satisfactory portfolio and experience in design basics will start in fall of the first year.
• Students granted advanced standing, typically coming from a 4-year pre-professional architecture program, will join the sequence in the second year.

The Master of Architecture is a 3+ year 100-credit degree program for students without advanced standing. Students granted advance standing may be able to complete the program in as little as two years with 49 credits minimum.

The B.S.E. in Engineering program at Jefferson Thomas Jefferson University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The program will prepare you with a breadth of engineering skills and knowledge while developing specific expertise and analytical skills in an area of technical concentration, including:

• Industrial and Systems Engineering
• Textile Engineering

You will begin developing science, math, and engineering analysis skills in foundational courses. As a sophomore, you will select your area of concentration.

Through applied coursework culminating with a two-semester senior design project, you will gain hands-on, real world experience allowing you to obtain professional licensure, succeed in industry, pursue graduate studies, or start a business in your specialized concentration or in general engineering practice.

The Master of Science in Microbiology & Immunology Program offers choices for career specialization with flexible schedules, professional training for academic credit and academic preparation for national professional certification.

The broad-based curriculum includes a minimum of 40 credits. Course content includes:

• The biology of microorganisms
• Immunology
• Epidemiology
• Pathology
• Biostatistics
• Management
• Clerkship

Master's research thesis or, alternatively, a Non-Thesis Option
The program may be completed on a part-time or accelerated (coursework) schedule over a period of 1.5 to four years. Courses are offered late afternoon/early evening and meet once per week, allowing students the flexibility to work while taking classes or devote their full attention to their studies. Flexibility is the key. .

The management program at Thomas Jefferson University prepares students with a broad understanding of business, keen leadership expertise, and flexible career options.

As a management student, you will acquire the skills to manage and lead innovation, either in existing companies or your own entrepreneurial ventures. You will gain valuable expertise in teamwork, professional communication, change management, human resources, and problem solving.

The groundbreaking M.S. in International Fashion Design Management program is developed to create the next generation of fashion professionals for a complex global fashion system. Students are invited to create their own path, and customize the experience to focus on different tracks with global opportunities right at their fingertips. By moving beyond the hand-crafted approach to fashion, students will have the opportunity to focus on design as a strategic function, integrated along the cycle of research and design, product development, branding and distribution.

This 30-credit degree offers flexible hybrid and virtual components. During the final semester, students participate in an outbound experience, which is student led and faculty advised to allow students to research and study in any region in the world. Students select a mentor and location, and determine the length of their stay in that region to offer more flexibility. During the final semester, participants create a project that demonstrates topic mastery through synthesis of knowledge and skills inspired from their previous coursework.

International & Industry Collaboration
Through this program, students explore fashion design through the lens of industry importance and learn about how it drives economic and social transformation. With an emphasis on Global Fashion, students study international fashion regions alongside influential industry leaders. Industry engagements and partnerships with top brands create exclusive networking connections, and help students develop a clear understanding of generating and developing a wide variety of ideas that uphold a professional standard. 

Our mission is to prepare students to be leaders in the real estate profession and to address the significant built environment challenges of the 21st century: sustainability, gentrification, poverty, the decline of brick and mortar retail and the shifts in demographics. Students will learn to address economic, social, and ecological issues when developing commercial, industrial, institutional, mixed use and residential real estate development projects. Philadelphia provides examples and case studies for much of the curriculum, but national and international examples are also investigated.

By focusing on the quadruple bottom line of real estate development and combining environmental sustainability, social consciousness, design excellence, financial feasibility and economic viability, students gain first-hand experience how real estate development invigorates communities and shapes healthy places to live, work, and play. Using the greater Philadelphia area, as a living laboratory, students learn to approach projects at various scales, ranging from single buildings to entire districts or neighborhoods.

Students have the option of taking classes in person at our East Falls Campus in Philadelphia, or take part in an online, low residency cohort. This cohort meets in person once a semester with other MSRED students and faculty in Philadelphia or another city in the region, while fulfilling all other requirements in a live online learning environment. Students in both programs have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, tour real project sites and neighborhoods, and learn from guest speakers through lectures, conferences and seminars
