Religious Studies
In Religious Studies, students are exposed to a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary study of the way in which both individuals and civilizations are deeply influenced by human religious experience. The goal is to enable the educated person to understand better the various ways in which religious values and institutions shape human behavior through a comparative study of religions and cultures. Such an education is invaluable for careers as diverse as journalism, law, medicine, business, as well as careers more directly related to the practice of religion. Majors in Religious Studies will also find courses designed to give them the methodological, theoretical and linguistic skills needed to go on to advanced graduate study in the field.

This program has been certified as a Global Pathway. Global Pathway programs have significant global content and align with the goals of USF’s Quality Enhancement Plan, the Global Citizens Project. Students in Global Pathway programs are well positioned to earn the Global Citizen Award and become eligible to apply for a study abroad scholarship offered by the Global Citizens Project.

Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast-Program and Production
The Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications is a pre-professional, hands-on program that prepares students for careers in communication, especially broadcast journalism, digital media, and promotional communication. The program has two concentrations: Broadcast-News and Broadcast-Program and Production.

Graduates should understand the structure and functions of media systems as well as the basic processes of mass communication. Students learn 21st century writing and video skills that prepare them for a variety of media jobs. The Tampa media market, which consistently ranks in the top 15 in the country, provides students with opportunities to learn from industry professionals who visit classes and host students in their workplaces. While pursuing their studies, students are strongly encouraged to expand their learning beyond the classroom by completing internships and working in the field.

Religious Studies-M.A.
The M.A. degree in Religious Studies provides opportunities for students with backgrounds in the scholarly study of religion to expand their knowledge of the social, cultural, intellectual, and historical contexts of religion, to develop a greater in-depth knowledge of particular religious traditions, and to acquire proficiency with a variety of pertinent methodologies and theoretical perspectives. The degree serves the needs of students who pursue careers in health professions in education, journalism, law, business, politics, and social work. It will be of special value to those interested in pursuing a doctorate in religious studies.

Physics
The B.A. program is designed for students who are not currently planning to attend physics graduate school and/or who want to pursue parallel studies in other fields such as mathematics, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, business, pre-med, pre-law, and teacher education.

The mission of ISLAC is to promote research and study in and about Latin America and the Caribbean. ISLAC is an academic unit devoted to interdisciplinary research and teaching focused on economic, social, political and cultural formations in Latin America and the Caribbean and among the Hispanic/Latino populations in North America.

The Institute fosters greater knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean and Latino issues, through partnerships with community organizations and other USF departments to sponsor lectures and cultural events that are open to the public throughout the year. We also support graduate students and faculty research in the area, and provide opportunities for Latin Americanist scholars at USF to collaborate and disseminate their work.

The School of Music also invites guest composers, conductors, and performing musicians to enhance its performances and to provide master classes, symposia, and clinics for students and the public. Many USF music alumni are currently performers in a variety of concert settings and successful teachers in public schools, colleges, and universities around the country in a variety of concert settings. The School of Music at USF offers the student the opportunity to study with distinguished faculty and to be in the company of other superior music students for an exciting and exacting period of study.

The Master of Music degree provides students with an opportunity to pursue intense, focused study in their music specialty, coupled with a vigorous, balanced curriculum in music theory, music literature, and electives. Students in this major are mentored expertly by senior faculty and exhibit mastery of their specialty at the end of the course of study by way of appropriate capstone experiences, including recitals or theses and comprehensive examinations. The provisions and balance of these experiences comport precisely with the curriculum guidelines required by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Global Business
The Bachelor of Arts in Global Business provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary for successful careers in the global business environment. Graduates will have not only a Global Business major, but also a concentration in one of the functional areas of business (Finance, Management, Marketing, and Business Analytics and Information Systems). With this preparation, graduates will find employment in many manufacturing, service or knowledge-based industries with global markets, global suppliers, global sources of finance and/or a globally diverse workforce. The Global Business program is unique in that it combines preparation in business administration with language studies and a meaningful overseas work or study experience.

The M.A. in Economics prepares students for careers as professional economists in business and government. It is also excellent preparation for continued graduate study in economics.
