The Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences degree serves the academic and career goals of undergraduate students who seek a broad education in the Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geology). Students select a sequence of upper-level courses based on career goals, choosing three of the five natural science areas. Students interested in secondary education, public health, and other fields may choose this degree.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Criminology
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology provides students with the skills and knowledge needed in the wide variety of agencies that comprise the criminal justice system, these include law enforcement, detention, the judiciary, corrections, juvenile justice, probation and parole. Also, the undergraduate program prepares criminology students to pursue a graduate degree in Criminology or related disciplines. The undergraduate program in Criminology introduces students to the theory, issues and methodology of the causes of crime and the criminal justice system. The program provides students with the critical thinking skills necessary for the consumption and production of criminological research. Upon graduation, students must be able to delineate the main theoretical explanations of crime and delinquency, demonstrate knowledge of research methods used in the fields of criminology and criminal justice, and provide an understanding of the structure and process of the U.S. system of criminal justice.

Master of Urban and Regional Planning

The goal of the Major is to train students to become planning practitioners capable of working in a variety of public, nonprofit, and private sector environments in a number of different fields. We prepare leaders in the field of urban and regional planning to meet community, national and global needs.

The Major recognizes the need for effective planners to possess diverse skills in the planning and management of human settlements. Accordingly, the MURP core coursework includes thematically-related courses in land use planning, research methods, quantitative analysis, planning theory and history, planning policy and politics, community and economic development, and geographic information systems (GIS). Students have the option of enrolling in electives that focus on housing & community development, land use planning, local economic development, GIS, coastal zone management, housing & community development, environmental and natural resources planning, natural hazards and resilience planning, and transportation planning. These areas of specialization build on the strengths of existing faculty in our sister-major in Public Administration, as well as with colleagues and facilities across the university. The major is thus distinct in its flexibility.

Electrical Engineering-M.S.
The faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at USF takes great pride in providing a high quality education to our more than 400 graduate students and invites you to consider joining us in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Our student body is diverse, our research spans experimental and theoretical studies of many fundamental areas of electrical engineering, and we enjoy strong partnerships throughout industry and with prominent national laboratories and federal agencies. The Bachelor of Arts program is designed primarily for the liberal arts student who has an interest in careers in Geoscience education or environmental policy and law. A student who elects the B.A. program and decides to pursue the geology profession or attend graduate school will need at least field geology in his/her program.

Biology
The Bachelor of Science in Biology provides a broad, robust foundation in the biological sciences. It prepares students for graduate programs in biology (e.g. zoology, botany, conservation biology, microbiology, marine biology, ecology and evolution) as well as professional degrees in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacology, or biology careers with industry and government agencies. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking and communication skills, as well as competency in experimental design, data analysis and methodology for lab and field research. The concentrations allow students to focus coursework according to their interests. A wide range of skill-building opportunities are available to students through undergraduate research, internships, study abroad, service learning, and field courses.

Master of Arts in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Non-thesis Master of Arts degrees. The Chemistry graduate faculty is comprised of full-time senior faculty members, all holding the Ph.D. degree. The combination of a large and strong faculty with a wide variety of courses provides students with programs of study that can be tailored to fit individual needs, while maintaining a sound background in all general aspects of Chemistry. The objective of the baccalaureate degree program in Accountancy is to provide students with accounting and business knowledge that will serve as a basis for careers in industry, government, non-profit organizations and public accountancy. The baccalaureate program also prepares students for entry into the Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) professional degree program. The State of Florida requires completion of 120 semester hours to sit for the CPA examination and 150 semester hours are required for licensure.
