We offer two tracks within the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food program: Food Service Management; and Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion.

Do you have a passion for food? It's time to put it to use
In the Food Service Management track, you'll focus on the controls of the food service system — like accounting, budgeting, pricing and regulations — and critically understand the theories and applications of human resources management, marketing and organizational design.

Through in-depth team projects, our students focus on modern food production, design, quality and productivity. You'll understand the health effects of nutrient inadequacies and excesses — and learn the value of producing quality food to achieve organizational and nutritional goals.

Are you interested in communicating nutrition information through social media, believe in exercise as part of a holistic approach, and have an entrepreneurial spirit? In the Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion track you will work across disciplines to gain an appreciation for communicating sound nutrition information to targeted populations and communities to encourage individuals to make healthy decisions. You’ll learn to assess and evaluate community programs, while taking advantage of our location to work in a wide range of program sites.

Our students apply their skills through internships at organizations like Panera Bread, Women's Lunch Place, Rosie's Place, The Boston Elder Protective Services Program, Aramark and the Somerville Health Department. Our graduates are leaders in the food service management industry and find success as directors, planners and managers.

As a sociologist, you'll investigate society from a grounded and critical perspective.

You'll study everything from crime to religion, developing a unique understanding of what motivates human behavior. Our Students are encouraged to study abroad and apply your substantial training to the real world. This program provides a challenging educational experience for students who wish to pursue health/fitness careers. The major provides hands on experience in the health/ fitness industry tied to core academic preparation in the science of exercise and health. Students of exercise science will have the requisite coursework for graduate programs in Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, and Exercise Science. Graduates of an exercise science program may work in community, retail, or medical fitness centers, hospital-based clinical exercise rehabilitation, clinical research, corporate wellness programs, and nonprofit health promotion organizations.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Neuroscience and Behavior degree blends social, natural, mathematical, and life sciences to address the intriguing issues related to behavior and experience.

Have you ever wondered what makes people act the way they do? The interdisciplinary field of Neuroscience and Behavior explores the nervous systems of the body and how they influence the expression of human behavior. It is a complex and ever-evolving study comprised of extensive research of the mind, combining aspects of psychology and biology to dig deeper into the biological bases of behavior, conscious experience, and the relationship between physical and mental health.

Why study Neuroscience and Behavior?
Through the Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Behavior degree, students closely examine cognition, behavior, and emotion in order to better understand the layers and intricacies of the mind and nervous systems. From this meticulous scientific study of the brain, students can reveal reasoning for much grander expressions and psychological patterns, as well as how disease and disorder can change behavior.

Molecular, cellular, and behavioral studies intersect together through an engaging and rigorous curriculum that covers core courses in biology, psychological science, statistics, chemistry, biological psychology, research methods, and the philosophy of mind. Going beyond this technical knowledge, the Neuroscience and Behavior curriculum also prepares students with the professional skills to communicate findings clearly and with confidence in order to innovate and push the boundaries of the field.

A Bachelor of Arts in Writing trains you to write with insight, clarity, and creativity. It prepares you for a variety of career paths or further degree programs.

Students will develop appreciation for the art of writing and hone their own skills as writers. They  will be able to read closely, produce creative and critical written pieces driven by their own insights in conversation with the ideas of others, do research independently, reflect critically on their own writing, and talk intelligently about their insights in discussions or formal presentations.

Our students develop sophisticated understandings of writing through reading and producing essays, short stories, poems, and public humanities writings. Students learn to read with a writers’ eye by analyzing the craft of published authors.  They sharpen their critical skills and their writing technique by participating in peer workshops.  Guided by award-winning faculty who are poets, novelists, literary scholars, and cultural critics, Writing majors discover their own style and talent as thinkers and writers.

Writing majors learn to read with discernment and write with clarity and force. Such abilities enrich students’ personal lives while providing them with practical skills that serve them well in their professional lives. Writing majors discover their own voices, learn to collaborate and revise, develop skills of critical analysis and creative expression, and gain confidence in themselves as independent thinkers.

Organizations today demand responsive leaders, who can provide vision, are creative, can manage across the organization, and work ethically and effectively in a diverse workforce. This BSBA Program major prepares students to assume well paid entry-level jobs that draw upon skills learned across the Business curriculum. Students gain an understanding of managerial roles, activities, and functions of organizations. Business and Management graduates have found jobs in biotech, financial services, healthcare, and communications. Students can combine a major in Business and Management with a variety of liberal arts disciplines such as psychology, sociology, or data science to enhance knowledge and critical thinking skills and to provide a broader context in which to make a difference in the workplace.

Our Bachelor’s degree in Business and Management offers flexibility in allowing you to select additional courses that can lead you to career tracks like People Management (HR), Operations Management, and social welfare advocacy. At the heart of it, general management capabilities that will build through this Business and Management major apply to most jobs and will serve you over a career lifetime.

Technology is constantly developing and evolving, presenting new challenges and opportunities
Through hands-on class projects you'll learn vital skills — like modern programming language, database management and web applications — and hone your quantitative skills.

As an information technologist, you'll determine user needs and develop, manage, and support technology-based solutions. Our students are well prepared for careers as web developers, web administrators, IT consultants, network supporters, system integrators, system analysts and application developers.

Nurses are always in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses (RNs) is projected to grow 7 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Furthermore, the need for trained nurses will never disappear.

Trained nurses with a BSN degree from Simmons University have the ability to work anywhere around the country—or even internationally. No matter where you end up, no two days will be the same in your nursing career. The constant changes and challenges of the healthcare field are undoubtedly demanding, but, more importantly, incredibly rewarding.

Nursing majors at Simmons graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, prepared for the registered nurse licensure (NCLEX) exam, graduate school, and entry-level nursing positions in offices, homes, hospitals, and schools.

Studying English nurtures your creative spirit while sharpening your skills
You'll study poetry, drama, novels, children's literature, films, and television—guided by award-winning faculty with expertise in prose, poetry, drama, children's literature, and media studies—and discover your own style and talent as an analytical and creative writer, as well as your own skills as a literary critic.

Our students go on to careers in law, publishing, advertising, business, government service, technology, media, journalism, writing and teaching. As an English major, with the ability to read carefully, analyze complex and sophisticated material, and communicate clearly in written and verbal form, your skills will always be in demand.

The major in biochemistry is jointly administered by the departments of biology and chemistry and is approved by the American Chemical Society. The rapidly growing field of biochemistry involves the application of biological and chemical concepts and techniques to the understanding of life processes such as the determination of hereditary traits, utilization of energy, propagation of nerve signals, and the molecular basis of physiological and pharmacological phenomena. Biochemists are involved in agriculture, medical research, biotechnology, nutritional research, and other areas at the interface of chemistry and biology.
