In our media arts program you'll learn to communicate, uplift, educate, and create change through visual storytelling.

You'll explore the art and science of communicating across multiple media — including drawing, video, animation, digital imaging, web, photography, and radio — and gain confidence in your own vision. And you'll do it in Boston, with close proximity to the MFA, the ICA and numerous other world-class art museums and galleries.

Work on projects for local, non-profit clients with a team of your peers in our communications workplace, Studio 5, or tackle creative opportunities like working on Commtracks, our award winning senior magazine. You'll hone your advanced aesthetic abilities and apply them to real-world projects. Our students develop a keen understanding of all communications disciplines, from graphic design to journalism, making them instrumental to any creative workplace.

The major in art includes courses in art history and studio art practice. Students choose either area to emphasize, depending upon interest and career plans. Either emphasis can serve as a foundation for further study at the graduate level. The study of art leads to careers in a wide variety of fields, such as teaching, publishing, arts administration, art conservation, museum or gallery work, commercial art and design, architecture, city planning, painting, photography, or printmaking, etc. In all of these areas, the major in art would profitably be combined with a major in another area, such as English, history, chemistry, philosophy, management, communications, or mathematics.

Students are encouraged to augment the required courses with in-depth study in the liberal arts and additional courses in the major. Students work with their advisor to develop a coherent course program that will meet their educational goals. Students considering graduate study should plan to take as many upper level courses in their major as they can accommodate in their schedules, especially during junior and senior years.

Organizations today demand responsive leaders, who can provide vision, are creative, can manage across the organization, and work ethically and effectively in a diverse workforce. This BSBA Program major prepares students to assume well paid entry-level jobs that draw upon skills learned across the Business curriculum. Students gain an understanding of managerial roles, activities, and functions of organizations. Business and Management graduates have found jobs in biotech, financial services, healthcare, and communications. Students can combine a major in Business and Management with a variety of liberal arts disciplines such as psychology, sociology, or data science to enhance knowledge and critical thinking skills and to provide a broader context in which to make a difference in the workplace.

At the heart of it, general management capabilities that will build through this Business and Management major apply to most jobs and will serve you over a career lifetime.

You'll critically understand every element of website development — from designing the perfect layout to writing the code behind the scenes — and build innovative, interactive websites.

The World Wide Web has driven a need for web designers and developers. People who understand both the art and the science of web development are particularly valued. Graduates will have a firm understanding of the principles of design as well as an understanding of the technical issues involved in the development of an active website. Students graduating from this major will have an advantage over traditional web designers because they will have both a clear understanding of the elements of web development and deep knowledge of the elements of design.

This major combines existing classes from the Communications and Computer Science programs to create a cohesive major in Web Design & Development. It seeks to draw students who are interested in integrating the two facets of website creation, rather than focusing on either the Graphic Design concentration or the Computer Science major.

Nurses are always in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses (RNs) is projected to grow 7 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Furthermore, the need for trained nurses will never disappear.

Trained nurses with a BSN degree from Simmons University have the ability to work anywhere around the country—or even internationally. No matter where you end up, no two days will be the same in your nursing career. The constant changes and challenges of the healthcare field are undoubtedly demanding, but, more importantly, incredibly rewarding.

Nursing majors at Simmons graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, prepared for the registered nurse licensure (NCLEX) exam, graduate school, and entry-level nursing positions in offices, homes, hospitals, and schools.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Literature, you will be able to write insightfully, read closely, think critically, and do independent research in ways that serve you in a variety of career paths or further degree programs.

Students will be able to read closely, write critical essays driven by their own insights in conversation with those of published scholars, do research independently, reflect critically on their own analytical thinking, and talk intelligently about their insights in discussions or formal presentations.

Students will be able to discuss how literary works fit into the context of their times and grow out of a society with a particular history and politics. They will be able to discern the complex relationship of representation to issues of power in relation to race, class, gender, and sexuality.

Our students work in teams to gather, analyze, and draw conclusions from industry and market data and craft marketing plans for local organizations. You'll learn to design compelling marketing campaigns that reflect your understanding of branding and consumer behavior, as you prepare for marketing opportunities in the workplace.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology degree program at Simmons University explores the vast discipline of biology—including animal and plant physiology, developmental biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, ecology, and biotechnology.

Biology is the study of life and includes a broad range of biological disciplines. Undergraduate students are well- prepared for graduate studies and careers with a strong foundation in biological principles and methodology, as a result of the department’s student centered classroom, laboratory, and research experience. For students desiring a broad education in the life sciences, ranging from the molecular and cellular level to that of populations and ecosystems, this major provides maximum flexibility in preparation for careers in biology, biotechnology, and related fields; it also serves as excellent preparation for graduate and professional schools.

Biology is the science and study of life. All living things fall under the umbrella of biology: humans, animals, plants—it is an enormous and all-encompassing discipline that consists of many fields and subfields. Biology is critical to medicine and healthcare, forensics, technology, and wildlife and environmental conservation.

A bachelor’s degree in Biology from Simmons cultivates an extensive understanding of the basic principles of biology, including the structure, biochemistry, function, and metabolism of cells, as well as genetics and the theory of evolution.

We offer two tracks within the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food program: Food Service Management; and Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion.

In the Food Service Management track, you'll focus on the controls of the food service system — like accounting, budgeting, pricing and regulations — and critically understand the theories and applications of human resources management, marketing and organizational design.

Through in-depth team projects, our students focus on modern food production, design, quality and productivity. You'll understand the health effects of nutrient inadequacies and excesses — and learn the value of producing quality food to achieve organizational and nutritional goals.

Are you interested in communicating nutrition information through social media, believe in exercise as part of a holistic approach, and have an entrepreneurial spirit? In the Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Promotion track you will work across disciplines to gain an appreciation for communicating sound nutrition information to targeted populations and communities to encourage individuals to make healthy decisions. You’ll learn to assess and evaluate community programs, while taking advantage of our location to work in a wide range of program sites.

Our students apply their skills through internships at organizations like Panera Bread, Women's Lunch Place, Rosie's Place, The Boston Elder Protective Services Program, Aramark and the Somerville Health Department. Our graduates are leaders in the food service management industry and find success as directors, planners and managers.
