Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Bachelor of Science, Major in Business with Emphasis in Marketing
Students in the Business – Marketing program at Montana State gain the tools to enter this growing and continuously-changing sector of the global economy through hands-on projects in and out of the classroom. Marketing students focus on skills such as statistical analysis, market tests and product research with interdisciplinary courses, extracurricular networking and consultation projects with the community. Once they enter the workforce, students in the program go on to become marketing and sales managers, retail buyers, sales professionals, digital marketing specialists or advertising account representatives.

Bachelor of Science, Major in Plant Science with Emphasis in Plant Biotechnology
As part of the Plant Biotechnology program at Montana State, students gain a strong foundation in the field by completing coursework through the first two years of the program in diverse subjects including chemistry, physics, biology, microbiology, genetics and other allied sciences. Once the general biotechnology coursework is complete, Plant Biotechnology students then study and address the various problems facing the various issues facing plant production and plant-related agricultural systems.

Bachelor of Science, Major in Natural Resources and Rangeland Ecology with Emphasis in Rangeland Ecology and Management
In the Rangeland Ecology & Management program at Montana State, students are given a background in ecological principles as preparation for managing rangelands in the western United States. Along with coursework in resource inventory, watersheds, rangeland restoration and vegetation ecology, Rangeland Ecology & Management students are able to select courses which focus on either production agriculture or other natural resource areas.

Focused on writing, teaching, and literary studies, the graduate English program at Montana State covers a range of literary topics from different countries of origin and time periods, but always centering on a focus on the vital role of space.
