Students in the Plant Biology program at Montana State start with a broad education of issues connected to the plant sciences before focusing their interest in the field with a cellular, molecular, organismal, ecological or genetic perspective to botany. In the graduate program for Immunology and Infectious Disease at Montana State, candidates pursue research projects within state-of-the-art laboratories on subjects such as vaccines and disease evolution, as well as genetics, disease transmission and immune responses. Candidates conduct these projects in labs such as the Core Flow Cytometry Facility and the state-of-the-art Cooley Laboratory. They train under award-winning and world-leading researchers in the fields of genetics and immunology.

The graduate Health Sciences program at Montana State provides students with an opportunity to diversify or further solidify their educational foundation through graduate education that can be applied to any of several career paths in the health care field. The program supports the educational endeavors of Montana State graduates, post baccalaureate pre-medical certificate students, and non-certificate students who attend MSU to better prepare for entry into health care-related professional schools.  In addition to applying to various graduate programs in the health care field, some students choose to pursue a Ph.D. following the program.

Montana State’s interdisciplinary Data Science program draws on courses in three programs: Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics. Candidates within the program delve into topics such as machine learning, algorithms, data mining, and artificial intelligence while also gaining skills in data analysis and contextualization. In order to provide students with the skills needed in a globalized world that increasingly pivots on Asia, Montana State University offers an interdisciplinary Asian studies major. In the Asian Studies program at Montana State, students are given the option to study either Arabic, Chinese or Japanese as a core language, as well as explore cultural electives and literature courses that span the continent.

The Technology Education program in the Department of Education at Montana State is a multi-disciplinary program of study designed to develop technological literacy through the study of past, present and future technological systems and their impacts on society. The Industry Option provides students the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of areas plus the flexibility to choose courses that allow them to further develop in-depth skills for their chosen career path. Students in the industrial technology option typically intern in business and industry areas related to their career interests.
