Mathematics students at Hanover learn to reason through problems to find a solution, express ideas clearly and recognize relations among seemingly dissimilar situations. As a mathematics major, you will become a creative thinker who can analyze a wide range of situations. You will master the skill of simplifying the complex. With small class sizes and a dedicated faculty, Hanover also lets you follow your particular interests through internships and independent study programs.

If you love watching movies set in the past, reading historical fiction or re-enacting history at military encampments, you understand history is alive. As a Hanover history major, you’ll study much more than just names and dates.

You may delve into the causes of the Holocaust, the sources of Lincoln’s greatness, the role of technology in war, our roles as members of a family, the triumph of Enlightenment rationalism, the meaning of our Constitution and much more. In other words, you learn to search for an interpretation of the past. At Hanover, studying economics will lead you to an understanding of the financial issues that drive local and world events – wealth, poverty, business, politics, stock markets, recession, employment, taxes and more. Through meaningful service and opportunities to travel on extended field trips with our faculty in the U.S. and abroad, you’ll learn about economic challenges facing today’s world, and explore how you can help overcome them. The study of economics prepares you to excel in the continually changing and increasingly interconnected global economy.

At Hanover, English majors read, write and study literature in order to investigate the basic human impulse to make sense of life through art.

You’ll study traditional literary works as well as underrepresented voices that may be new to you. Our award-winning faculty and visiting scholars will challenge you with new ideas. Develop your own creative writing and contribute to the student-run literary magazine, newspaper or coffee house readings. Travel abroad to discover your literary roots. As you advance in your studies, take one of our unique, in-depth seminars focused on a literary master. The major culminates with an independent research or creative project you design yourself.

You’ll begin with an introduction to the breadth of chemistry, followed by a deeper study of advanced subjects. Your program will culminate with a collaborative research project in which you’ll explore an area of interest to you, with the help from a member of Hanover’s highly specialized faculty. Since languages are best learned through immersion, all classes are taught entirely in French. You are encouraged to seize the many opportunities to interact in French in the community and abroad.

As a Biology student at Hanover, you will become immersed in the study of living things. Gain valuable field experience in the remarkable forests, wildlife refuges and state parks located nearby and on our 650-acre campus overlooking the Ohio River – an ever-changing outdoor classroom.

Work directly with professors in class and modern labs and participate in the Biology Department’s Summer Research Program, which provides you with real research experience working directly with top scientists in the fields of Animal Behavior, Evolution, Botany, Immunology, Development, Genetics or Systematics. Our students receive outstanding preparation for many careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary and related fields, and have a remarkable record of acceptance into professional schools and in establishing notable careers in the biological sciences.
