It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of English
At Hanover, English majors read, write and study literature in order to investigate the basic human impulse to make sense of life through art.
You’ll study traditional literary works as well as underrepresented voices that may be new to you. Our award-winning faculty and visiting scholars will challenge you with new ideas. Develop your own creative writing and contribute to the student-run literary magazine, newspaper or coffee house readings. Travel abroad to discover your literary roots. As you advance in your studies, take one of our unique, in-depth seminars focused on a literary master. The major culminates with an independent research or creative project you design yourself.

Bachelor of Psychology
As you study human behavior and the mind with Hanover’s accomplished, widely published faculty, you’ll learn that all of life is a process of inquiry. Unlike any other school, you’ll design and conduct your own research projects at least four times in the course of your studies.
In fact, all seniors present their projects at an undergraduate research conference. For hands-on experience, maybe you’ll conduct low-level therapy in controlled situations on campus. Or maybe you’ll intern with a local psychiatric hospital or community agency. As a psychology student at Hanover, you will have a better understanding of how and why people act, think and feel the way they do.

Bachelor of French
At Hanover, the study of a modern language is rooted in activities and readings that help students see the world with the perspective of another culture. You’ll learn to use language as a tool that connects cultures, business and individuals.
Instead of learning only good spelling and grammar, you’ll expand your cultural awareness through the study of civilization, culture and literature and become a global citizen. Since languages are best learned through immersion, all classes are taught entirely in French. You are encouraged to seize the many opportunities to interact in French in the community and abroad.

Bachelor of Gender Studies
With a broad interdisciplinary base, the gender studies major at Hanover allows you to look at the subject of gender through a variety of lenses. The departments of theology, sociology, philosophy, psychology, political science, art history and English all have something to teach you about gender.
You’ll look at gender in various cultures and how it shapes people’s experiences and world views. You’ll break down your own assumptions through dynamic class discussions and experiences. For many students, the major is not so much a body of knowledge as it is a deeply personal path of inquiry. The major is often combined with second major.

Bachelor of Theological Studies
Students in Theological Studies explore religious movements and ideas, along with the ways in which these shape our world. They discuss ancient and modern texts, watch movies, pursue creative projects, write autobiographies, or even tour Italy.
In our classes, you will be invited to explore questions about the nature of ritual, the importance of myths, the problem of suffering, the well-being of animals and the environment, and the relationships among the multiple humanistic and religious traditions of the world. Perhaps most importantly, you will be invited to decide for yourself the meaning and purpose of your life, and you will be challenged to figure out how human beings can best live together for the good of all.

Bachelor of Geology
As a geology student at Hanover, you will develop your scientific reasoning through discoveries in the classroom and in the field. Geology studies are supported by a wide range of hands-on experiences that make learning come to life.
Our small class sizes allow for lively discussions about compelling issues in geology, ranging from global warming to depletion of our natural resources. You will have opportunities to work with state-of-the-art laboratory technology and pursue research in collaboration with our faculty. You will gain valuable field experience in at least one of Hanover’s off-campus travel courses to the Grand Canyon, Ghost Ranch, N.M., or even northwest Scotland, where you will learn how to recognize rock types and geological structures, as well as apply your knowledge to field-mapping and problem-solving.
