The BS in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in Modern Foreign Language – French, prepares students to teach in K-12 setting. This program requires the selection and completion of required coursework in Spanish and includes field and practicum experiences in K-12 settings, culminating in Missouri teacher certification.

The BS in Secondary Education is designed to provide specialized knowledge, skills and training in a flexible format.  You’ll learn from highly qualified educators and researchers who hold terminal degrees from some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions.

The BSBA, Management Emphasis degree is a 120-credit-hour program that requires at least 48-credit hours be filled with business courses, of which a minimum of 18-credit hours need to be taken in Management courses.

Throughout the program, students will be given the tools to become effective leaders, skilled communicators and savvy problem solvers. They will learn the theory and functions of management; the management of human resources; the development of strategic policies in an organization; organizational design and conflict resolution; entrepreneurship and international management. Students will be prepared to enter the workforce and succeed locally and globally across a wide range of business professions.

The BS in Cybersecurity, Computer Science Emphasis provides a deeper technical and mathematical focus and is suitable for students interested in technical cybersecurity roles in industry and government. It blends technical- and business-oriented skills designed to prepare students for a variety of cybersecurity and IT related careers.

The core coursework includes business or technical writing, introduction to computing, programming and data structures, object-oriented programming, computer organization and architecture, Linux environment and programming, introduction to information security or cyber threats and defense, secure software development, information security risk management and business continuity, computer forensics and introduction to cryptography for computer security, while the emphasis courses are focused on preparation for the more technical aspects of cybersecurity.

The BS in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Middle School Education, is a small, personalized program that combines the child-centered philosophy of elementary certification with a content specialization more typical of secondary certification. Middle school majors earn certification in one or more content areas for grades 5-9: math; science; communication arts or social studies.

Students gain skills and insights that can be applied as innovative educators, managers and directors, program planners and curriculum developers. You’ll have the opportunity to earn specific credentials, as needed, and to pursue academic minors related to your individual career goals.

Outcomes and Career Outlook

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to improve and enhance student learning; integrate technology to create meaningful student learning within the context of a global digital society; apply content and pedagogical knowledge to create authentic and deep learning experiences; use learning science principles to design, implement and evaluate curriculum based on learning standards; design and establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment that nurtures the intellectual, social and personal development of all students; and use equitable frameworks and inclusive practices to create a variety of instructional and assessment opportunities adapted to diverse learners to encourage all students’ critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills.

The BS in Psychology involves the application of foundational knowledge and skills from math and the natural sciences to the study of behavior. Students can concentrate their advanced coursework in a specific disciplinary subfield including behavioral neuroscience, child psychology, clinical psychology, or health psychology/pre-health psychology.

The Entrepreneurship emphasis is an option in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program. Throughout the program, students will develop skills in financial and managerial accounting, information systems concepts, business analytics and statistics, supply chain management, management and organizational behavior, marketing, strategic management and more.

As you can imagine, salaries for entrepreneurship majors vary, and there are a wide range of potential outcomes. While various outcomes are based on individual goals and career aspirations, entrepreneurship majors develop the knowledge, skills and tenacity that make them strong leaders in any capacity.

The Psychological Sciences Department offers a master's (M.A.) degree with an emphasis in Behavioral Neuroscience (BN). The BN program has adopted an apprenticeship model of graduate training in which each student works closely and continuously with a faculty member within the realm of the faculty member's research interests. The studio arts area offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in one of six concentrations: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Graphic Design and General Fine Arts. Since 75% of the classes required for the B. F. A. are within art, the degree is considered a professional degree program in art, as well as traditional preparation to pursue graduate studies in the field. The department also offers a Minor in Studio Art and a Certificate in Photographic Studies. Classes are taught in the newly renovated Fine Arts Building. UMSL has a transfer agreement with the St. Louis Community College District, which offers a direct transfer to upper division BFA courses to students who graduate with an AFA degree from one of the three SLCC schools.

Studio art faculty are dedicated teachers and committed artists. They exhibit regularly in exhibitions of regional, national and international significance, have developed impressive client lists and are sought after to give workshops and oral presentations on their work. Faculty have received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ford Foundation and been honored by a variety of national and international arts organizations. Their work is included in important public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Library of Congress, Museum of Contemporary Photography, McDonnell Douglas Corporation and Emerson Electric.

The BS in Cybersecurity with an emphasis in Information Systems and Technology is a 123-credit- hour program that requires 33-credit hours of core and 75-credit hours of emphasis specific coursework. The IST emphasis provides both technical and business skills. It focuses on applied aspects of cybersecurity and is suitable for students interested in pursuing cybersecurity management and analyst roles in industry and government.
