Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Admission into the Education Department and additional education departmental coursework is required. This major is designed to prepare students for the teaching profession in Health and Physical Education. With the addition of approximately 37 hours of education requirements, the student will be eligible for a Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science
As the most popular Health and Human Performance major, nearly 50% of our Exercise Science students apply to graduate schools to study physical therapy, physician’s assistant, chiropractic or occupational therapy. An internship and a full-year of research and statistics are required.
Students interested in health-related professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and chiropractics may elect to major in Exercise Science. Students should consult with their advisor regarding pre professional requirements and suggested program of study.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) prepares students to analyze problems and develop strategic solutions for their workplace. The MBA focuses on real-world application of business knowledge and skills. The MBA is a 36-hour program that consists of three parts: (1) general knowledge (2) required core and (3) electives selected to meet your goals. In addition, students will participate in the mentoring program designed to enhance networking opportunities.

The B.S. and the B.A. in biology provide students with the experience and knowledge necessary to have a successful career. A B.S. in biology requires 28 approved hours from Math, Physics, and Chemistry department courses . Competency in a modern language other than English is strongly encouraged. The B.S. tends to be the preferred option for most students as it also most closely matches the expectations and requirements of many professional and graduate schools.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Studies
Students work with advisors to build an individualized course of study in multiple areas of interest. For example, you can combine acting with directing, musical theatre with playwriting, or costume design with stage management.
Develop a set of skills and experience to confidently enter the world of professional theatre. Take advantage of Nebraska Wesleyan's active production schedule and opportunities to customize your learning and gain practical experience to build your resume.
You can also craft an interdisciplinary BFA degree combining multiple departments in a single course of study, such as theatre design and art history, directing and business management, acting and psychology.

The program’s curriculum is split into a generalist curriculum and a specialized curriculum. The generalist curriculum consists of 32 credits hours, including the completion of a 400-hour practicum experience. Once students have completed the generalist curriculum, they will be allowed to progress to the specialized curriculum, which consists of 34 credit hours of advanced coursework, including a minimum of 500 hours of practicum experience. Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program may be able to begin the program with advanced standing and start directly into the specialized curriculum.

The Bachelor of Science degree is for those who wish to emphasize their study of chemistry.
Students interested in chemical engineering can participate in the Engineering Dual-Degree Program. Chemical Engineering students complete either a B.A. or B.S. degree in Chemistry at NWU and any remaining engineering program requirements at one of our participating schools of engineering.
For students interested in studying pre-health, a program of study emphasizing a strong background in chemistry is available for students planning a future in medicine.
