The Department of Modern Languages at Nebraska Wesleyan University prepares students to engage in a diverse and changing world through the study of languages, literatures and cultures. Recognizing that the study of language is central to the experience of a liberal arts education, the Department of Modern Languages serves the entire student body through the Archway Curriculum and its Major and Minor programs. At every level, students develop skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing, equipping them to communicate with global competence.

Modern Language Studies at NWU:
The study of language and cultures is central to the humanities and vital to students as they prepare for professional careers in a globally interconnected society. The Department of Modern Languages offers a broad curriculum with courses in language, culture and literature, supported by interdisciplinary collaboration with departments and programs across the university and through study abroad opportunities.

Students who want to pursue a B.F.A. degree will need to go through a B.F.A. Clearance. In order to qualify, students must complete or be currently enrolled in required art core courses (ART 1050 Art Research, ART 1300 Introduction to Drawing, and ART 2300 Intermediate Drawing) as well as one introductory art history course, and introductory (1000-level) courses in both 2-D and 3-D media. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in all art classes at the time of the review. The B.F.A. Clearance will be held concurrently with the annual portfolio review that is required for art majors. The art department faculty will evaluate the portfolio and inform the student of its decision to allow for time to plan schedules.

The Bachelor of Science degree is designed for those students pursuing employment or further education in physics or engineering

The business-sociology degree combines courses in business, accounting and economics with courses in sociology and anthropology.

As the most popular Health and Human Performance major, nearly 50% of our Exercise Science students apply to graduate schools to study physical therapy, physician’s assistant, chiropractic or occupational therapy. An internship and a full-year of research and statistics are required.

Students interested in health-related professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and chiropractics may elect to major in Exercise Science. Students should consult with their advisor regarding pre professional requirements and suggested program of study.

The mission of the Social Work Program at Nebraska Wesleyan University is to prepare students for entry into professional generalist social work practice with a commitment to promoting social justice and enhancing human well being for individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.

The combination of chemistry-based curriculum with a significant biology research component prepares our students for postgraduate studies in biomedical sciences. While biochemistry focuses on the structure and function of compounds like DNA, enzymes and proteins, molecular biology focuses on how molecules convert information into chemical reactions. Hands-on experimentation is central to the curriculum, which allows students to engage in high-level work that most of their peers do not experience until graduate school.
