Overview

Theatre performance majors engage in a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to performance. Students learn through improvisation and script analysis; acting techniques that include knowledge through a variety of historical and physical styles including Greek, Elizabethan, restoration and 20th century “isms”; as well as techniques to increase vocal and physical awareness of the actor. Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Students learn about creating and selling advertisements, as well as study marketing, management, consumer behavior and business-focused topics. The biomedical science major emphasizing the chiropractic track is designed for students who want to enter the chiropractic field.

With more chiropractic schools requiring a bachelor’s degree, Northwest offers a unique program that provides students with foundational knowledge in biomedical sciences for three years. During the fourth year, students attend a chiropractic school, gain hands-on experiences, and return to Northwest to finish their bachelor’s degree. Northwest has articulation agreements with Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo.

Northwest faculty focus on teaching students human anatomy, the positioning and function of bones and muscles, and their relationships within the human body; human physiology, interrelationship between organs and organ systems, and the fundamentals of physical and life sciences.

Spanish majors study the experience of language, life and culture through the lens of the Spanish language. Faculty focus on literary research and cultural studies ensuring students are proficient in speaking and writing in Spanish.
