Chemistry
Chemists study the reactivity, structure, and properties of atoms and molecules that comprise materials and the world in which we live. It is a fascinating subject that delves into the very bonds that make us human. The field of chemistry is crucial to areas such as plastics, medicine, electronics, cosmetics, and forensics.

The Department of Chemistry offers a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals. The program is perfect for those who wish to earn a Ph.D. at another institution or who wish to advance their careers in an industrial setting.

The Department of Music offers a Master of Music degree, with a variety of emphasis areas, including performance, conducting, and music education. Within the area of performance, students may select an instrumental (string, wind, brass, percussion, or keyboard) emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.

Awards for full-time graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these positions will take active leadership roles in the department's ensembles, teaching and accompanying private lessons, and/or serving as an assistant to the ensemble director.

Polymer Chemistry
Pittsburg State University’s Department of Chemistry, together with the Plastics Engineering Technology Program, and the Kansas Polymer Research Center, provides unprecedented bachelor and master’s degree options for students in the midwest and beyond that enable students to enter the workforce as working polymer chemists in as little as four years.

The key to our program's success lies in its qualified faculty and small class size (average class size of 15), which ensures hands-on support and guidance. Our graduates enjoy a nearly 100% placement rate in groundbreaking careers or advanced degree programs.

The School of Construction offers a comprehensive sequence of courses in Environmental and Safety Management. This broad-based program exposes students to several aspects of environmental and workplace safety.

Environmental and Safety Management program is on the list of national board-approved programs. A student earning an environmental and safety management degree from a board-approved institution is automatically qualified for the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) credential offered by the ISHM.

We have undergraduate programs covering the range of modern biology including: pre-health (pre-med, pre-dentistry, pre-vet, pre-optometry, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant), medical technology, cell and molecular biology, wildlife biology, fisheries and aquatic sciences, botany, ecology, and secondary education.

There are almost 400 students in the undergraduate program and about 20 in the graduate division. The Department of Biology has 13 full-time faculty with a wide range of interests. The faculty are dedicated and committed to Pittsburg State University and the department, but most importantly, to students. Most faculty are actively engaged in research activities, national professional organizations, and professional service.

Ecology and Field Biology - Emphasis
The Ecology and Field Biology emphasis covers a wide range of topics, including physiological ecology, natural selection, population biology, ecosystem dynamics, and more. Combing both lab and field activities, this program gives students a hands-on, interactive look at the fascinating relationships between organisms.

This track is recommended for students pursuing a career and/or graduate study in ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental science, zoology, wildlife biology, conservation, and more.

The Department of English and Modern Languages offers baccalaureate degrees and a master’s degree program. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programs are offered in English and in Modern Languages. A Bachelor of Science in Education and a master’s program are also offered in English. The department offers minors in English, English Teaching, Creative Writing, French, Professional Writing, and Spanish.

French Language and Culture - Emphasis

The Department of Communication offers a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Arts degrees within a collaborative and collegial environment. Media Production  - Emphasis
Pittsburg State University’s media production program offers students the perfect mix of advanced communication theory and hands-on experience. Students have the opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and develop skills through live broadcast and streamcast productions of university events such as athletics, theater, music concerts, speaker series, and much more. Collision Repair and Insurance Management - Emphasis
This program, the most popular of our options, is the perfect choice for students whose career plans are to work in automotive corporate or dealer positions. An emphasis area within our 4-year Automotive Technology program, the Service Management and Marketing program, focuses on the business aspect of the automotive and diesel & have equipment industry.

The Department of Technology and Workforce Learning offers a Master of Science degree with a major in Technology. Within the program, students may choose to have no emphasis or may select from nine emphasis areas. This program provides advanced instruction in technical, scientific, managerial and supervisory areas for those working in technical and management positions in business and industry. The program consists of 30-33 credit hours.
