Pittsburg State University's Department of Chemistry prepares students for careers in science, chemical engineering, pharmacy, chemistry teaching, pre-engineering, and other university programs that require rigorous training in chemistry. It offers eight Bachelor of Science Degrees, two Master of Science Degrees, and one minor.

Chemistry Polymer - Emphasis
Polymer chemistry is the branch of chemistry that studies the synthesis, characterization, and processing of macromolecules. The Polymer Division of the American Chemical Society projects that 50 percent of chemists will work with polymers during some time of their career.

To prepare students for careers in polymer chemistry, the Department of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry and Emphasis in Polymer Chemistry.

The Department of Music offers a Master of Music degree, with a variety of emphasis areas, including performance, conducting, and music education. Within the area of conducting, students may select a choral emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.  

Awards for graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these awards will assist with teaching as well as the administration of ensembles or other areas of the program.

The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. B.S. programs are offered in Nutrition and Wellness, Community and Family Services, and two tracks in Child Development. A B.S.E. program is offered in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The department has an Early Childhood Unified: Birth - Kindergarten program. The department offers minors in Child Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Ecology, Nutrition and Wellness, and Youth and Adolescent Development. The department also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health. 

Nutrition and Wellness - Emphasis
The Nutrition and Wellness concentration appeals to students who want to work in settings where they would apply knowledge about nutrition in the community setting. (This is not a dietetics program.) This concentration builds upon the Family and Consumer Sciences focus, which is the application of the sciences to the betterment of individuals, families, and communities.

The Master of Science in Technology is the most flexible of the College of Technology graduate programs because it can be tailored to address a wide range of career goals, based on emphasis selected. The Master of Science in Technology program provides advanced instruction in technical, scientific, managerial and supervisory areas for those working in technical and management positions in business and industry. The online degree program is designed for the full-time, workplace-bound individual.

The Master of Science in Technology program offers a 15-hour core of course work in research, global issues, leadership, quality systems and management, and statistics-based analysis; and one credit hour of assessment. Remaining nine hours of emphasis–related courses and nine hours of enrichment electives complete the 33-hour program to address candidates’ specific career goals. Candidates in program typically have undergraduate degree related to a specific technology area. Depending upon academic background and emphasis selected, candidates may be required to take pre-requisites or foundation course work.

The Department of Physics at Pittsburg State University was founded in 1962 and has been dedicated to the outstanding teaching of undergraduate and graduate physics students ever since. The College of Arts and Sciences along with College of Technology offer a Master of Materials Science degree program. The Master of Materials Science prepares students for careers in industry and also for postgraduate degrees in materials science, engineering and related fields. This program is collaboratively designed to be an interdisciplinary degree between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Technology. Such an interdisciplinary STEM program will provide hands-on, academic activities and practical experiences for students, readying them to join the workforce.

Automotive Mechanical Design - Emphasis
This program is the perfect choice for students whose career plans are to work in automotive corporate or dealer technical positions. An emphasis area within our 4-year Automotive Technology program, the Technical program focuses on the advanced automotive technical areas of the automotive industry.

The Department of Technology and Workforce Learning includes several undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Programs of study include two-year associate and certificate programs as well as several undergraduate degree programs in the Workforce Development, Vocational Teacher Education, Technology and Engineering Education, and Wood Technology.  Graduate programs in Career and Technical Education, Technology, and Human Resource Development are also available.  In addition, one post-graduate program in Workforce Development and Education (Ed.S) is also available.
