Pittsburg State University's Department of Chemistry prepares students for careers in science, chemical engineering, pharmacy, chemistry teaching, pre-engineering, and other university programs that require rigorous training in chemistry. It offers eight Bachelor of Science Degrees, two Master of Science Degrees, and one minor.

Chemistry
Chemists study the reactivity, structure, and properties of atoms and molecules that comprise materials and the world in which we live. It is a fascinating subject that delves into the very bonds that make us human. The field of chemistry is crucial to areas such as plastics, medicine, electronics, cosmetics, and forensics.

The Department of Chemistry offers a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals. The program is perfect for those who wish to earn a Ph.D. at another institution or who wish to advance their careers in an industrial setting.

The Department of Technology and Workforce Learning includes several undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Programs of study include two-year associate and certificate programs as well as several undergraduate degree programs in the Workforce Development, Vocational Teacher Education, Technology and Engineering Education, and Wood Technology.  Graduate programs in Career and Technical Education, Technology, and Human Resource Development are also available.  In addition, one post-graduate program in Workforce Development and Education (Ed.S) is also available.

Construction Engineering Technology
The Construction Engineering Technology degree (Bachelor of Science Engineering Technology) was created in 1979 to provide our construction program with an engineering concepts emphasis and to support industry needs. The Construction Engineering Technology program requires students to complete a strong core construction curriculum supported by engineering concept courses including statistics, mechanics of materials, concrete/wood/steel structures, foundation/soils, and temporary structures.

Environmental Chemistry - Emphasis
Environmental chemistry is the study of the chemical processes that occur in nature due to activities by humans, from soil to water to the atmosphere. Through field and laboratory work, environmental chemists attempt to understand how chemicals move through the environment and impact it, as well as human health. They take measurements, interpret data, and do computer modeling.

To prepare students for careers in environmental chemistry, the Department of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University offers a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Chemistry and Emphasis in Environmental Chemistry.

The Department of Music offers a Master of Music degree, with a variety of emphasis areas, including performance, conducting, and music education. Within the area of performance, students may select a vocal emphasis. This degree is designed to prepare individuals for professional advancement or for entry into further study at the doctoral level.

Awards for full-time graduate assistantships are available on a competitive basis. Recipients of these positions will take active leadership roles in the department's ensembles, teaching and accompanying private lessons, and/or serving as an assistant to the ensemble director.

The Department of Engineering Technology is housed in the Kansas Technology Center on the Pittsburg State University  campus. Engineering Technology Programs are comprised of elements of the technological spectrum requiring scientific and engineering knowledge plus the operational methods and skills devoted to achieving practical purpose in support of product producing industries.

The Department of Communication offers a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Arts degrees within a collaborative and collegial environment. Our top-ranked faculty are highly active in their professions and emphasize the importance of fusing theory with applied skill. We have more than 250 majors across the five emphasis areas of human communication, media production, multimedia journalism, strategic communication, and theatre. Media Production  - Emphasis
Pittsburg State University’s media production program offers students the perfect mix of advanced communication theory and hands-on experience. Students have the opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and develop skills through live broadcast and streamcast productions of university events such as athletics, theater, music concerts, speaker series, and much more. Successful graduates will have the skills necessary to succeed in both the traditional and digital realms of broadcast communication.

The College of Arts and Sciences along with College of Technology offer a Master of Materials Science degree program. The Master of Materials Science prepares students for careers in industry and also for postgraduate degrees in materials science, engineering and related fields. This program is collaboratively designed to be an interdisciplinary degree between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Technology. Such an interdisciplinary STEM program will provide hands-on, academic activities and practical experiences for students, readying them to join the workforce.
