Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has become one of the hottest areas of interest for students and a highly marketable skill. The Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Science (B.S.GIS) major is a professional degree program that prepares students for a range of careers dealing with geospatial technologies, modeling, and spatial problem-solving. Graduates of our program are well-prepared for positions in research laboratories, local, state, and federal agencies, private companies, planning departments, engineering firms, and many others. Our students are also excellently prepared for pursuing advanced graduate degree programs. The B.S. GIS program provides students with in-depth skills in GIS analysis and programming. The program at Rowan has a special focus on web-based mapping, environmental sustainability and the emerging field of geodesign which coordinates well with our planning offerings.

Molecular and Cellular Biology focuses on the study of the processes that govern living organisms. Comprehensive curricula cover theory and laboratory methods, allowing students to carry out and understand molecular and biomedical research. The program provides students a solid foundation in the life sciences preparing them for careers in the highly competitive health professions programs such as medical school, dental school, and pharmacy school, nursing, biotechnology and pharmacuetical industry positions.

The Master of Science in Bioinformatics (M.S.) prepares our graduates with the skills to immediately contribute in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and biomedical fields. Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary field of study that focuses on the use of computational information tools in the investigation and analysis of biological, biomedical, and biochemical systems. The industry uses information generated in the lab or clinic for future applications, research, and development.

Our program provides hands-on experience, giving you the opportunity to work on novel research. This includes advanced training in theory and laboratory settings, which allows you to diversify into other biomedical research fields. This program includes the following three focus areas: Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, and Computer Science.

The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences program provides students a broad background in biology, however, maintains flexibility for students to build their own specialty track and prepare for a career. Our faculty's wide range of experience will prepares students for work in research, teaching, laboratories, professional schools, and graduate programs in diverse areas.

As we move to an era of decreased reliance on fossil fuels and rapidly diminished available land for development, efficiency in the use of the remaining land and in the sustainability of every dimension of our lifestyles will become ever more critical. In this environment, wise planning will become increasingly necessary. Planners are in demand to fill positions in consulting, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. A masters degree in Urban & Regional Planning is recognized as the terminal degree for this profession, but currently there is only one accredited planning program in our state. This proposed program will focus on all planning fields commonly practiced in southern New Jersey, but at the same time highlight the global significance as they are related to climate change, environmental degradation, sustainability, resiliency, and diversity. This proposed program will accommodate the needs of full-time professionals through a combination of evening and online courses.

Planning is a multidisciplinary field, so the MS program will accept students with undergraduate degrees from both science and liberal arts backgrounds. The MS program is being developed in such a way that graduates become skilled practitioners and are qualified to work within government, private, or nonprofit sectors.

We offer an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, and a minor in civil and environmental engineering.

Our Master of Arts in History is tailored toward increasing competence in historical studies for preparatory or supplementary teaching, on both the high school or community college level. It is also appropriate if you are seeking qualification for admission to a doctoral program at another institution or if you are pursuing an advanced-level liberal education for intellectual challenge and personal fulfillment. We offer a thesis and non-thesis track.
