The courses that constitute the Justice, Ethics, and Human Rights Thematic Area wrestle with the thorny issues of justice, equality, and human rights. How do we create more just societies? What are the conditions that promote or impede collective violence and mass murder? What kinds of peace settlements are long lasting? Can we protect human rights and simultaneously reduce poverty and inequality? What kinds of criminal and transitional justice systems are both fair and effective at reducing abuse? Students in the program will learn about an array of empirical cases and master the pertinent theoretical and ethical debates.

This interdisciplinary degree encompasses feminist, masculinity, queer, and sexuality studies. The multicultural program is committed to an intersectional approach that embraces diverse perspectives, and courses emphasize participatory education in which student involvement, critical thinking, and personal insight are integral to the learning process. Economics is the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth. Students in our bachelor’s program gain the analytic and quantitative skills necessary for research positions and prepare them for masters or doctoral level study in the discipline. We support a pluralistic approach to economics that embraces mainstream and heterodox perspectives and emphasizes policy applications.

The BS in statistics features two tracks: data science and mathematical statistics. The former is for students with a strong interest in the field of application, who want to gain the skills to collect, analyze and use data to drive decisions. The latter is for those with an interest in the theory of statistical methods. 

MS taxation program is the only one of its kind offered in the Washington, DC area. This program offers the versatile and practical experience you need to excel in the tax world. Our faculty are both mentors and practitioners — many of whom hold high-level positions at PwC, Deloitte, and EY.

You'll develop and deepen your knowledge of federal and state tax codes, emerging from the program prepared to succeed in all areas of the field.

In the Global Economy Thematic Area, students will study the political economy of this evolving international landscape and analyze economic growth, winners and losers, and the legitimacy of these changes. They explore how globalization changes the world and alters the political, economic, and social prospects of nations and their citizens. They also consider how international organizations struggle to manage this complex process and create governance structures to adapt to these changes, and how national governments attempt to balance their sovereign mandate to govern and protect their people with the frequently disrupting financial and trade-related impacts of global competition.
