At the most basic level of ability, managers must understand the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, IT, economics, operations, and human resource management. In later stages of a manager’s development into the executive ranks, he or she needs to understand how organizational processes interrelate and occur within a context. Executives must be able to make sense of societal changes, political drivers, social values, global interaction, and technological change.

Every organization needs educated, skilled leaders who can build effective teams and shepherd projects to completion. AUM’s Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is a solid foundation for a life-long career in business. You’ll learn about organizational behavior and develop the interpersonal and decision-making skills that will allow you to flourish in a variety of business environments. With your degree, you’ll be prepared to work for businesses of all sizes, from small local firms to large multinational organizations. Internships will give you vital real-world experience.

As one of the concentrations in the Sociology bachelors’ degree program, the Pre-Social Work program provides an academic foundation for a career in social work. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) defines social work as

“The professional activity of helping individuals, families, groups or communities enhance or restore their capacity for social functioning or creating societal conditions favorable to that goal.” 

Social workers with a bachelor’s degree meet this goal by serving the community in a number of ways, including helping people cope with life challenges such as adopting a child or being diagnosed with a terminal illness. They also work with groups, community organizations, and policymakers to develop or improve programs, services, policies, and social conditions.

Health Sciences offers a rewarding career in healthcare and related fields. If you plan to go on to medical school or another health professional school, you’ll need a bachelor’s degree and a set of prerequisite courses, so it makes sense to choose a concentration within your major in which you are interested, and one that contains as many of the prerequisite courses as possible. Most of the prerequisite courses come from chemistry, physics, and mathematics, the courses needed for the chemistry major. So, you will be earning your degree at the same time you are meeting the requirements for professional school.

This is achieved by offering a mix of theoretical and applied courses in economics, the function of markets around the world and optimal criteria for decision-making.

If you’re looking for exposure to the many creative possibilities in the visual arts while you get a meaningful general education in liberal arts, the Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Visual Art may be right for you. The Visual Art program teaches students the traditional principles, methods, techniques and historical background of art necessary for building specialized roles in the art field. The Visual Art concentration emphasizes personal expression and specialization for preparation to become a practicing artist or candidate for graduate programs.

Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

A Secondary Education General Science degree prepares students to teach general science courses in the areas of chemistry, earth and space science, physics, and biology at the middle, junior, and senior high school levels (grades 6-12).

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a distinctive degree plan designed to serve students with unique needs or academic interests. Serve your community by keeping it safe. Now more than ever before, the world needs committed and capable criminal justice personnel. With a bachelor’s degree from AUM’s Criminal Justice program, you’ll be qualified for a variety of criminal justice jobs at the local, state, and federal level. You’ll take at least one course from each of the specialization options: law enforcement, corrections, juvenile justice and security administration. This major provides broad academic preparation in both general education and advanced course work of a specialized nature in either the criminal justice track or the legal studies track. Students in this program get hands-on experience during their internship.

Physical Education (P-12)
The undergraduate Physical Education Teacher certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting.  Candidates must meet Auburn University at Montgomery and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements. An internship is required.

The Department of Communication Disorders provides intimate, dynamic instruction and hands-on training for undergraduate students in both the theoretical and applied aspects of human communication sciences and disorders, preparing graduates for post-secondary study and multi-disciplinary career opportunities. The Department of Communication Disorders emphasizes student development of resolute ethical standards and evidenced-based practices in the delivery of speech-language and audiological services.

The AUM Communication Disorders program was established in 1976 and consists of two academic faculty members and four clinical faculty members, all of which hold certification by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association and licensure via the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. The academic faculty teach the theoretical perspectives for both development and disorders, while the clinical faculty directs the student’s implementation of this knowledge for the remediation of speech, language and hearing disorders within the river region.
