The AUM Theatre program’s strength is preparing emerging artists for careers in production as performers, directors, designers, technicians, stage managers and more.

You’ll learn through faculty coaching and practical experience. At AUM, as you learn about all aspects of production, you’ll also cultivate valuable traits that will serve you well– communication, leadership, confidence, self-discipline, work ethic, dedication, creativity, and teamwork.

Students in the Theatre option of the Communication and Theatre department put classroom training and skills to work in every aspect of the department’s mainstage theatre lab productions. This award-winning program participates in and provides leadership for state, regional and national theatre organizations such as the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Southeastern Theatre Conference, United States Institute of Theatre Technology and the Alabama Conference of Theatre.

The employment world for chemical professionals can be divided into five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship, according to the American Chemical Society. There are many job titles associated with each of these sectors, such as analytical chemist, chemistry teacher, forensic scientist, geochemist, hazardous waste chemist, materials scientist and many more.

Maybe your passion is making that next big scientific discovery, or protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from AUM’s College of Sciences provides an excellent background for many different careers, prepares you for graduate school, or helps pave the way toward seeking admission to medical school or other professional health degree programs. With its low student-professor ratio, AUM offers you plenty of opportunities to strap on your goggles and join your professors in hands-on research. Choose from three concentrations: Chemistry, Professional Chemistry, and Health Sciences Chemistry.

The Biology Health Sciences concentration is designed for students seeking a degree in biology while preparing for application to healthcare related professional school including veterinary, pharmacy, physician’s assistant, dentistry, physical therapy, or medical school. The courses in this concentration help student fulfill admission requirements or recommendations and are useful in preparing for professional school admission tests (MCAT, PCAT, and similar).  In addition there a number of electives that, with the help of our pre-health advisor (link to advising), are chosen to fulfill program specific requirements.

All students in our Health Sciences concentration meet with our pre-health sciences advisor regularly. Our advisor will help you choose classes and shape your degree path for your chosen profession and helps with applications. This includes assisting with mock interviews and coordinating committee letters of recommendation. To date our advisor boasts a 90% placement rate for students meeting entrance requirements.

The specialization in Information Systems, a STEM program, is designed to provide the student with the background to perform the functions necessary in business information processing and management. In addition, the student can acquire sufficient knowledge so that he or she will be able to assume supervisory responsibilities in an information systems environment and lead strategic initiatives using information technologies for competitive advantage.

The Department of Fine Arts offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Graphic Design concentration. You’ll spend most of your time getting practical, hands-on experience, guided by experienced faculty. Class sizes tend to be small which promotes student and faculty interaction. In professional practice, graphic designers create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for applications such as websites, motion graphic animations, advertisements, packaging, magazines, and logos.

Courses in drawing, digital photography, computer graphics, and typography will give you the technical mastery of the skills you’ll need to take a project from conception to completion. You’ll build a professional portfolio, and many AUM Graphic Design students get paid internships at firms like Stamp Idea Group in Montgomery that lead to permanent jobs after graduation.

The photographer Garry Winogrand famously said, “The problem of the artist is to state the problem.” In other words, the artist wants you to speculate and examine problems, not solve them. At AUM, we want you to learn how to think like a fine art photographer. It’s not simply a matter of receiving instruction in how to take a technically proficient image, but rather how to communicate a concept to the viewer in a compelling manner. The Department of Fine Arts offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Photography concentration. Photography students will receive a foundation in film that will serve as the basis of all future photo and video courses. Why film? Will Fenn, Chair and Associate Professor in Photography at AUM, believes the limited number of frames available to a photographer with film encourages a person to learn how to carefully construct and compose an image. This results in a photographer being able to capture what he or she wants more economically. In the Photography program at AUM, you’ll receive practical, hands-on experience in both film and digital photography. Class sizes tend to be small which promotes student and faculty interaction.

The Kinesiology programs at Auburn University at Montgomery provide unique opportunities for individuals who want to work in a fast-paced, sport setting. A variety of programs are offered, including Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Sport Management.

If you want to spend your life immersed in the world of history, art, and culture, major in Art History within the Fine Arts Department. In AUM’s interdisciplinary Art History program, you’ll be introduced to the history of Western Civilization through an examination of images, artifacts, buildings, and works of art. Our program offers courses on art from the Ancient world to the Contemporary and encourages students to consider works of art and architecture as dynamic objects that reflect the cultural and social history of the time in which they were made. You’ll also be trained in highly desirable, transferable skills prized by employers, such as visual literacy, critical thinking, primary research, and effective written and oral communication skills.

Anthropology is the study of all humans, past and present. Per the American Anthropological Association, anthropology helps one to “understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history” as it draws from social, biological, and physical sciences, as well as the humanities. The study of anthropology provides you with skills that are useful for living and working in today’s world and interacting with people from many different cultural backgrounds. Anthropology graduates are critical thinkers and effective communicators who are able to be productive members of working groups by generating relevant information and making informed decisions. Anthropological training concentrates on three broadly transferable skill areas — understanding human diversity, building research skills for collecting and making sense of information, and communicating effectively.

The complement of knowledge gained through the study of anthropology is applicable to a wide array of careers. Government, academia, business, and community service organizations are four of the job sectors that many undergraduate anthropology students pursue. Other graduates of anthropology programs choose to seek further study and advance to graduate school.

A degree in Economics from AUM provides students with analytical tools and practical skills to succeed in business, finance and government. This is achieved by offering a mix of theoretical and applied courses in economics, the function of markets around the world and optimal criteria for decision-making.
