Exercise Science
The Exercise Science program is a dynamic and exciting major preparing students for careers in human performance, training and conditioning, corporate fitness and wellness.  Clinical and preventive areas of preparation include cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical therapy and health promotion.  The AUM Exercise Science program is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for its outstanding program leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. An internship is required.

The Molecular Biology concentration is designed for students who have a desire to continue their education through graduate school. This option will prepare students for graduate training programs in the biological sciences, including cellular and molecular biology, immunology, pharmacology and genetics, and will also prepare graduates for entry-level positions in biological research and technology laboratories. This option will also provide a solid foundation for application to health-related professional schools.

Career advancement in an increasingly diverse global society requires the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people from different cultures, ethnicities, nationalities, and social backgrounds. A sociology degree serves as an excellent springboard for a variety of careers in diverse fields in business, industry, and organizations. Sociologists study social life, social change, diverse communities and their interactions, and they use scientific methods to find empirical answers to complex social questions. The AUM Political Science major offers a variety of courses exploring the multiple and various dimensions of politics. Our courses provide an understanding of the forces that shape the lives of citizens in the United States and around the world.

• In courses on American politics, students learn about the complex relationship among Congress, the presidency, and other political institutions; the impact of money on campaigns and elections, and the role of race in politics.
• In international relations courses, students study the implications of an international environment without a supranational government and how that environment leads countries to be the most important entities in world politics and, in turn, makes the international relations realm of power politics and cooperation more difficult to achieve.
• In comparative politics courses, students explore the factors that make democracy more or less likely, how the transition to democracy can create instabilities, and how differences in countries’ electoral systems can lead to government instability.
• In public administration courses, students examine the relationship among political actors, institutions, and bureaucratic organizations to understand the issues related to effective governance.

Environmental scientists use their knowledge of earth’s systems to protect the environment and human health. They do this by cleaning up contaminated areas, making policy recommendations, or working with industry to reduce pollution and waste. Soil and plant scientists, and ecologists often work in remediation efforts, for a sanitation company, in manufacturing, at a university, or for a not-for-profit organization. Other environmental scientists are engaged in environmental policy, planning, and management for local governments, performing research-intensive work. Some professionals in this field have careers at the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Park Service, the United States Geological Survey and other agencies.

They also use what they learn to make recommendations and develop strategies for managing environmental problems. From wading through swamps studying the impact of encroaching human populations on endangered species, to monitoring pollution levels in lakes and rivers, graduates of AUM’s Environmental Science program get the training needed for a fascinating and rewarding career.

The Environmental Health and Toxicology concentration in the Environmental Science bachelor’s degree program prepares students to look at their environment critically and assess how changes to their environment can affect their health and the health of their environment

AUM’s Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is a solid foundation for a life-long career in business. Geographic Information System (GIS) is a very important skill for many environmental scientists. This concentration gives students an extensive skill set in GIS that they can use in the job market or as an entry point into graduate school. We also offer the Environmental GIS and GIS double major program so students can earn two degrees, in Environmental GIS and GIS, by taking one additional semester.

AUM’s BSBA in Finance offers a mix of applied and theoretical courses with an emphasis on applying practical knowledge and skills in the workplace. Through the successful completion of courses in the Finance core, you will garner the terminology, tools and skills necessary for a career in the financial services industry or functional area of financial management, as well as for graduate study. The program requires completion of a broad core of lower division courses that comprise the AUM core curriculum and an upper division business core that emphasizes a common body of knowledge and tools underlying the successful practice of business administration.

In this program you’ll learn to determine the value of businesses, help new businesses find the capital they need to succeed or assist a young couple in planning for a comfortable retirement. You’ll get a solid foundation in financial institutions, financial planning, and financial management before choosing to concentrate in one of these areas or select advanced courses in finance, accounting or economics.
