The employment world for chemical professionals can be divided into five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship, according to the American Chemical Society. There are many job titles associated with each of these sectors, such as analytical chemist, chemistry teacher, forensic scientist, geochemist, hazardous waste chemist, materials scientist and many more.

Maybe your passion is making that next big scientific discovery, or protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from AUM’s College of Sciences provides an excellent background for many different careers, prepares you for graduate school, or helps pave the way toward seeking admission to medical school or other professional health degree programs. With its low student-professor ratio, AUM offers you plenty of opportunities to strap on your goggles and join your professors in hands-on research. Choose from three concentrations: Chemistry, Professional Chemistry, and Health Sciences Chemistry.

A teacher’s influence can last a lifetime. Positively shape the lives of young people with a career in the classroom. Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

AUM’s BSBA in Finance offers a mix of applied and theoretical courses with an emphasis on applying practical knowledge and skills in the workplace. Through the successful completion of courses in the Finance core, you will garner the terminology, tools and skills necessary for a career in the financial services industry or functional area of financial management, as well as for graduate study. The program requires completion of a broad core of lower division courses that comprise the AUM core curriculum and an upper division business core that emphasizes a common body of knowledge and tools underlying the successful practice of business administration.

In this program you’ll learn to determine the value of businesses, help new businesses find the capital they need to succeed or assist a young couple in planning for a comfortable retirement. You’ll get a solid foundation in financial institutions, financial planning, and financial management before choosing to concentrate in one of these areas or select advanced courses in finance, accounting or economics.

Careers in broadcasting, journalism, public relations, videography, multimedia production, documentary filmmaking and other communication fields start with AUM’s bachelor’s degree in Communication. You can choose from three concentrations: Communication Studies, Journalism, and Public Relations.

In the Communication Studies track, you’ll learn about media law and ethics, media writing and researching, and the purposes, functions and effects of the mass media on individuals, institutions, culture and social structure. The Journalism track allows you to dive deeper to develop your writing and editing skills, along with learning digital video production. For those who would like to have a career in public relations, this track helps you understand PR programs and planning, along with developing your writing, editing and research skills specific to the profession.

The specialization in Information Systems, a STEM program, is designed to provide the student with the background to perform the functions necessary in business information processing and management. In addition, the student can acquire sufficient knowledge so that he or she will be able to assume supervisory responsibilities in an information systems environment and lead strategic initiatives using information technologies for competitive advantage.

In AUM’s Childhood Education program, you’ll get certified in either Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education or both, qualifying you to teach children from birth through grade 6. You’ll go from our classroom to your own classroom with a practicum under expert supervision in AUM’s own Early Learning Center, an internship under a local expert teacher, and hundreds of hours of supervised field experiences in local schools to practice what you’re learning in your teaching methods courses.

A degree in Economics from AUM provides students with analytical tools and practical skills to succeed in business, finance and government.
