The department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Auburn University offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in medical laboratory science, chemistry, and biochemistry. The department has 24 full-time faculty members and is conducting cutting-edge research in the areas of biological chemistry, synthesis methodology, molecular recognition and detection, new material synthesis and characterization, computational chemistry, renewable energy, as well as in the traditional areas of analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Undergraduate laboratory classes are conducted in the Sciences Center Laboratories Building.

Computer engineering emphasizes design, implementation and maintenance of hardware and software components of modern computing systems, computer-controlled equipment, and networks of intelligent devices.

Today’s consumers want the news in every form—on their phone, in a podcast, through social media, on television. With a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, you’ll learn how to research and report news and information across all platforms, both digital and traditional. You can specialize in broadcast, community, digital technology, entrepreneurial/business, health and science, investigative, magazine, sports, or visual journalism. And you’ll receive additional hands-on practical experience when you work at the student newspaper, television station, radio station, magazine, or yearbook.

The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) prepares undergraduate students for a variety of exciting and challenging career opportunities including: preschool teaching; administering programs for young children, adolescents, and adults; parent education; mental health services; child advocacy; and cooperative extension. Senior HDFS interns have been placed in outstanding work settings throughout the United States such as Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, the Children's Television Workshop/Sesame Street, Walt Disney World, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Interns have also been placed in many local schools, counseling centers, social service agencies, court systems, and assisted living facilities for seniors.

Planning is concerned with the use of land, protection of the environment, public welfare, the design of public spaces and infrastructure, and the economy. The Community Planning program at Auburn University is a professionally oriented, master's degree program. Biosystems engineers work to ensure our communities have safe and plentiful food to eat, pure water to drink, clean fuel and energy sources, and a safe, healthy environment in which to live. As a student in biosystems engineering, you’ll use principles of engineering and biology to solve problems in biological systems, agriculture, natural resources and the environment.

Auburn offers the only accredited biosystems engineering program in Alabama, and the forest engineering option is the only one of its kind in the South.
