If you’re a natural-born “mathlete,” a degree in mathematics can lead to a career in many exciting areas, including actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, and secondary education. You can also pursue a graduate degree or professional degree in fields such as law and business.

Mathematical Statistics
This field of study emphasizes mathematical analysis, probability, and some practical statistics courses to prepare you for graduate school in statistics or a career in practical statistics. Through this program, which was developed in cooperation with the Department of Experimental Statistics, you may obtain a minor in experimental statistics by taking a proper choice of required electives and one additional class.

Spanish is one of the three most widely spoken languages in the world and the second most widely used language in the United States. Mastering the Spanish language and culture can give you a critical edge in virtually any U.S. business or private firm, as well as in law and government service.

Secondary Education
If you plan to teach high school Spanish, the concentration in secondary education will prepare you for teaching certification while you pursue your degree in Spanish.

Here you will learn about energy and matter, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, the birth of the universe, and Einstein’s special theory of relativity. Our program will prepare you for graduate school in physics, leading to careers as a college professor, as a scientist at a government agency (like NASA), or in high-tech industry.

Physics and a Second Discipline
This area of focus is for students who wish to combine the study of physics with another subject, either a minor or a double-major, in order to tailor their degree to their interests and career goals.

Learn the math and theory behind modern-day computing, develop and hone your programming skills, and then use computers to solve problems in almost any industry. Computer science involves programming computing devices, creating information systems, engineering new products, visualizing and creating imagery, working with data infrastructure and networks, and protecting information through cybersecurity Concentrations include cloud computing and networking, computer science and a second discipline, cybersecurity, data science and analytics, and software engineering. Many graduates go on to become software engineers/developers, but other job titles include cybersecurity specialist, network designer, entrepreneur, web developer, and more.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study.

Coastal Meteorology: Ideal for anyone interested in pursuing a career in meteorology, especially regarding coastal impacts and weather disturbances.

This program will provide you with the knowledge and skills to participate in the environmental community in areas such as federal and local environmental regulations, land use planning, soil and water conservation, coastal restoration, and agricultural management.

Agricultural & Extension Education
This broad-based curriculum encompasses all areas of agriculture and offers you unique opportunities for professional and leadership development, hands-on learning across the state, and participation in faculty-led research. Available concentrations will prepare you for teaching in secondary schools or for careers in extension, business, government, or industry.

Teaching in Formal Education
Develop your agricultural knowledge and skills through teaching; supervise agriculture experiences, teach students in both formal and informal settings, and advise FFA and other agriculture organization chapters.

This major emphasizes a hands-on approach to understanding human behavior and offers exceptional preparation for graduate study in psychology or medical school. You can develop the skills you need in areas such as biological, clinical, cognitive, and school psychology. The department also has an extremely active honors program through which you can work with faculty mentors on meaningful research.
