• Literature: The literature concentration will allow you to stretch your mind and find new meaning in everything you read. It emphasizes reading, interpreting, and placing imaginative literature in a variety of interpretive contexts.

Mechanical engineers apply principles of engineering, mathematics, physics, and materials science for the analysis, design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of equipment and machinery. They also work on all forms of energy production, exchange, and conversion for a wide variety of applications. As an LSU Mechanical Engineer, you will learn to emphasize physical realization of prototypes, develop skills for communicating tech­nical content effectively, and engage your professional community through industry-sponsored projects. Mechanical engineers are versatile and work in industries such as automotive, air and space, and petrochemical, to name a few. Careers include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) engineer; automotive designer; manufacturing engineer; reliability and maintenance engineer; production supervisor; and more.

The major has a low teacher-student ratio, so small classes are guaranteed. Graduates are prepared for employment and post-graduate study. Those choosing post-graduate study are ready for pre-med, pre-law, pre-dental, pre-vet, pre-Masters of Public Health, and pre-disciplinary graduate study. Those entering the workforce have many career options. If you have a demonstrated strength in science, math, complex problem-solving, and enjoy field work, then this is the degree path for you.

Kinesiology is the study of human movement and the practice of helping people understand how their body performs, how to maintain proper physical health, and how to maximize their body's potential.

Interior designers create functional and visually appealing indoor environments. They shape, organize, furnish, and adorn the insides of buildings to reflect our personal and cultural aspirations. Today’s interior designers do not simply decorate. They work on wide range of interiors, from residential to corporate projects, designing spaces within new buildings and finding ways to adapt and re-use existing structures. If this sounds like your idea of heaven, then interior design may be for you.

From companion animals to livestock, study all aspects of the animal industries, including production, processing, and nutrition, as well as care of companion animals and preparation for veterinary school. Hands-on learning, faculty-led research opportunities, and real-world experience prepare you for exciting and challenging careers.

Dairy Foods Technology: Learn about animal sciences with a focus on dairy food products, production, and development.

Learn about nutrition and the research, development, packaging, and distribution of our food supply. At LSU, you will participate in hands-on learning, professional development, and faculty-led research to prepare for a health-related profession or career in business or agriculture.

Dietetics: Gain the knowledge necessary to take the exam to become a registered dietician. Registered dietitians provide expertise in nutrition and food service management in a variety of settings.

Study everything from the chemistry of groundwater to seismic interpretation of Earth’s subsurface. You can also enjoy a six-week field course at LSU’s field camp in the Rocky Mountains. A degree in geology from LSU will prepare you for a graduate degree program or a career in the energy or environmental industries.

Geophysics
This concentration focuses on the physics of the Earth and its environment with added emphasis on mathematics and physics.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study. 

Materials
Make the connection between chemistry and a wide range of practical materials used to fabricate electronic, optical, and other devices.

Electrical engineers are primarily concerned with the generation, control, transmission, and distribution of electric energy, signals, and information. This may be on a large scale, such as designing a more reliable power grid, or a small scale, such as developing components for a new medical device or cell phone. Graduates could design power systems in Baton Rouge, work on flight control systems in San Diego, help maintain an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, or work at a software company in Silicon Valley.
