Information systems and decision sciences professionals are among the highest paid recent college graduates with a top starting salary ranging from $50,000 to $65,000. The Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences offers two constantly updated concentrations: information technology, for students interested in designing, programming, and testing website applications and building database systems; and business intelligence, for students interested in analytics.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study. 

Pre-professional Chemistry
This area of focus is designed primarily for students who will apply for graduate education in another profession, such as medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.

Through the study and performance of communication, you will learn how we form, maintain, and transform language, communication tools, and meaning.

Study ways to improve crops and discover new crossbreeds of plants, and learn the latest approaches to the cultivation, marketing, and processing of ornamental plants, fruits, and vegetables. Topics include soil science and conservation, ornamentals and grasses, urban landscape management, sustainable horticulture, and much more.

Agricultural Pest Management/Plant Pathology: Learn about agriculture biology and physical science through class instruction and internships with a specific emphasis on plant pathology.

With a field that’s as broad as life itself, the biological sciences major gives you ample exposure to help you figure out where you belong within this area of study. Upon graduation you will be well prepared for placement in graduate school; medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary school; and in careers that range from public health to environmental science.

Marine Biology
In marine biology, you will study, protect, and manage the organisms, plants, and animals that live in oceans or saltwater environments. And since the two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered with water, you'll have plenty of research material.

Explore the natural world in biochemistry at LSU. This interdisciplinary area of study underlies many of the most cutting-edge breakthroughs in understanding life processes and is critical to modern medicine, so even as an undergraduate, you can participate in research that can have real-world implications.

Find yourself among the dedicated students and faculty who work to improve the lives of others through speech, language, and hearing therapy. Study the nature and treatment of problems with speech, language, and hearing. You will learn about the linguistic, developmental, physiological, and acoustic aspects of oral communication and will be prepared for the advanced training necessary for certification in fields such as speech language pathology and audiology.

Electrical engineers are primarily concerned with the generation, control, transmission, and distribution of electric energy, signals, and information. This may be on a large scale, such as designing a more reliable power grid, or a small scale, such as developing components for a new medical device or cell phone. Graduates could design power systems in Baton Rouge, work on flight control systems in San Diego, help maintain an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, or work at a software company in Silicon Valley.

Management will help you explore the many facets of organizational behavior, industrial and labor relations, as well as an appreciation and understanding of global management practices, among others. You can pursue these areas further through the human resource management concentration, international management concentration, or strategic leadership concentration.

Finance is the study of how individuals, businesses, and organizations acquire and use money. In fact, finance students get hands-on experience with this through the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), or Tiger Fund, which gives them the opportunity to work through such areas of security research, valuation of risky assets, and portfolio management. Since it began in 2005, students have taken the initial $1 million provided by the LSU Foundation and grown it to more than $2.3 million.
