At Roosevelt economics goes beyond the curriculum that is currently being taught at universities around the world. It presents and challenges students with radically different economic perspectives and alternative schools of thought. Roosevelt is one of the few universities in the United States where students can study economics from green, institutionalist, Post Keynesian, anarchistic, rhetorical, Marxist and other points of view, while gaining technical proficiency in conventional Neoclassical and Keynesian methods. Our faculty are drawn to the study of economics by a commitment to social justice. Economics students are prepared to be socially conscious citizens and leaders in their professions, whether in business, public service, research, teaching or other careers.

A comprehensive program of study in the techniques, management and technologies of information infrastructure and tools used in modern enterprises and society. Students should expect small, intimate classes staffed by full-time faculty, with access to a variety of advanced resources from laptops to large computational and data clusters to 3D printing.

The emphasis of the Master of Science in Biology degree program is to develop practical research and professional skills and a thorough conceptual foundation in biological science. The program is course-based and includes a one-semester research experience. Students who are prepared for additional research training may pursue a master’s thesis under the sponsorship of a department faculty member.

The BFA in Acting is a pre-professional degree program designed to develop a strong foundation in the skills required for a career as an actor on stage, and in film and television. The acting program provides students with intensive training in several techniques including Stanislavski-based work, Viewpoints, period styles, on-camera technique, circus arts, stage combat, and Linklater voice and body technique. Acting majors also receive training in dance and voice lessons as part of their curriculum. Along with opportunities to perform in mainstage and blackbox productions, acting majors also have the opportunity to intern at some of Chicago’s most prestigious theatres including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Steppenwolf Theater Company and Goodman Theatre, and dozens of smaller Chicago theatres.

Mathematics is a beautiful and interesting subject that will help you gain analytical and problem-solving skills. Mathematicians are problem solvers that combine a deep knowledge of statistics, numbers, functions, shapes, structures and their interconnections to solve real world problems. Mathematics opens the doors to many promising career paths. A study by PayScale shows that the top 15 highest-earning college degrees have a common element: mathematics. Popular mathematics careers include teaching, data analyst, quantitative analyst, computer science, data science, operations research, biomathematics, cryptography, and finance.

Roosevelt's program is the only bachelor's level histotechnology training program in the state of Illinois. The affiliation with Northwestern Memorial Hospital is exclusive and only current RU students are eligible to apply for the clinical training portion of the program.

The MA in Elementary Education (ELED) prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of children from 1st through 6th grades. This intensive, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It provides opportunities to earn a combination of Illinois teaching credentials.

The first sustainability bachelor’s degree in the Chicago area, this program prepares graduates to tackle the sustainability problems of the 21st century. Using insights and analytic methods from science, policy, and environmental justice, students explore natural and social ecosystems, recognize national and international implications of sustainability issues, and apply their knowledge on behalf of campus and community projects.
