The MA in Middle School Education prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of children in middle school classrooms. This intensive, field-based program prepares candidates to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It leads to Illinois teaching credentials in the areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The Master of Arts degree in General Psychology is a fully online program, providing broad-based training in applied psychology, research, and intervention. This program is designed for current professionals employed in fields such as social work, counseling, nursing, or business and who wish to broaden their areas of expertise. Students seeking preparation for doctoral studies will also benefit from this program. Roosevelt's program can be completed in one calendar year. 

Music education students at CCPA come from all over the world to experience Chicago and develop their music teaching practice. Students enroll in degree plans with a choral or instrumental focus but all music education majors develop well-rounded knowledge and skills through methods courses in general music, choir, band, and orchestra as well as techniques and conducting courses. Students have access to a wide spectrum of school settings that help them relate real-life teaching situations to their coursework.

Sociology, like the other social sciences, focuses on human behavior and what it means to be human in constantly evolving social interactions that are part of personal identity, group behavior, and collective action. What distinguishes sociology is its emphasis on social structure as a means of analyzing and interpreting behavior, and the systematic study of the development, structures, institutions, and patterns of social interaction. A degree in sociology provides students with analytical skills, the ability to design research projects, and real insight into the human condition that can lead to successful careers in nonprofit organizations, social services, public services, education, government, sales, marketing, and administrative management. The BA in Sociology also prepares students for graduate study in sociology, as well as law, psychology, social work, and medicine.

Mathematics is a beautiful and interesting subject that will help you gain analytical and problem-solving skills. Mathematicians are problem solvers that combine a deep knowledge of statistics, numbers, functions, shapes, structures and their interconnections to solve real world problems. Mathematics opens the doors to many promising career paths. A study by PayScale shows that the top 15 highest-earning college degrees have a common element: mathematics. Popular mathematics careers include teaching, data analyst, quantitative analyst, computer science, data science, operations research, biomathematics, cryptography, and finance.

Of the dozens of majors offered at Roosevelt University, philosophy is perhaps the one most closely aligned with the university’s mission to educate socially conscious citizens. Through deep and precise reading in philosophical texts, students not only interrogate essential human questions, they learn thinking, writing and speaking skills that they may use in service of social justice. Philosophy students often go on to careers in law, education, medicine, business, science, mathematics, ministry, social work and many other areas.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology prepares students for jobs in the biotechnology industry, including pharmaceutical companies, university research laboratories, medical research centers, forensic laboratories, museums and government agencies such as the EPA, OSHA, FDA, IDNR, and the Department of Agriculture. It also prepares students to teach biology at the secondary level, with additional course work from the College of Education, and for admission to graduate health professional programs such as medical, dental, veterinary and optometry schools; physician assistant, physical therapy, and nurse practitioner training; and graduate programs in the life sciences.

Medical technologists perform a variety of tests on blood, tissues and body fluids using the techniques of hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, clinical chemistry and urinalysis. They work in conjunction with pathologists, physicians, or scientists in hospital laboratories. This is a 3+1 program in which the first three years of course work are completed at Roosevelt University with the final year completed at the clinical affiliate site.

A major in history is one of the most flexible liberal arts degrees you can obtain. In addition to history, you’ll learn critical reading, writing and thinking skills that prepare you for any position requiring research, writing and analysis. You will learn to examine historical forces, people and events from multiple perspectives and with global awareness, all while honing your communication skills.
