The MA in Secondary Education (SEED) prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of adolescents in grades 9 through 12. This intensive, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families in the subject areas of biology, business, chemistry, English, history, and math. It provides opportunities to earn a combination of Illinois teaching credentials prior to the completion of the MA degree, including the middle school endorsement.

Roosevelt's economics faculty are dedicated to using economics to address problems of unemployment, poverty, income and wealth inequality, social justice, global climate change, and inequality amongst nations. Roosevelt is one of the few universities in the United States where students can study economics from heterodox points of view. A commitment to pluralism, intellectual tolerance, and diversity of thought and method are essential to the Roosevelt approach to economics. Courses at Roosevelt include eclectic, institutionalist, Post Keynesian, feminist, and Marxist approaches to economic analysis in addition to standard Neoclassical and Keynesian approaches. Our objective is not to replace one orthodoxy with another but rather to encourage students to view economics as an evolving discipline that can help them make sense of the world around them and succeed in a rewarding career.

Mathematics is a beautiful and interesting subject that will help you gain analytical and problem-solving skills. Mathematicians are problem solvers that combine a deep knowledge of statistics, numbers, functions, shapes, structures and their interconnections to solve real world problems. Mathematics opens the doors to many promising career paths. A study by PayScale shows that the top 15 highest-earning college degrees have a common element: mathematics. Popular mathematics careers include teaching, data analyst, quantitative analyst, computer science, data science, operations research, biomathematics, cryptography, and finance.

The BA in Education and Youth Studies prepares undergraduates to support the learning and socio-emotional needs of school-age youth (five through sixteen) and their families in roles that do not require teacher licensure, such as teaching assistant, coordinator of tutoring, and student support specialist. This field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families, including those with special needs and second language backgrounds. It leads to employment credentials that are recognized by schools and non-profit community organizations, and is excellent preparation for careers in counseling, human services and non-profit public administration.

This computer science program follows an enhanced traditional curriculum, with its emphasis on data, data theory and computing systems theory. It prepares students to pursue careers in highly advanced areas such as data systems, systems programming and software engineering, or to go on to pursue graduate degrees in computer science.
