Computer engineering coursework focuses on the tradeoff of execution throughput compared to hardware/software/energy costs of all types of computers from portable embedded devices and miniature sensor nodes, up through supercomputers. Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Civil engineers design, construct, manage, monitor, and repair the built environment, which includes roads, buildings, bridges, foundations, tunnels, dams, and water supply and sewage systems. UCF’s civil engineering program focuses on the design and analysis of structures, geotechnical engineering, engineering mechanics, water resources, and transportation engineering. Civil engineers are directly responsible for improving the quality of life and safety of society, and are the forefront of smart city initiatives and technology innovations for civil engineering including Infrastructure, Transportation, water, etc. UCF students are active within the American Society of Civil Engineers, where they participate in steel bridge design and construction and race a concrete canoe, and many other student organizations.

Comprehensive Track
Cover fundamental computer engineering concepts. You’ll be exposed to key areas in the discipline, including embedded processing, operating systems, object oriented programming, computer networks, FPGA Design, computer organization and architecture, etc. The technical electives can be selected to provide more depth in one or more areas of computer engineering. Graduates find employment in companies such as Lockheed-Martin, Siemens, Microsoft, Google, Intel, Apple, TI, as well as many other regional, national, or international companies. Also, opportunities exist for employment in state and federal government agencies.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree prepares you to provide comprehensive care in a variety of acute, community and rehabilitative settings. The program emphasis includes clinical nursing practice, health promotion and maintenance, and preparation for assuming leadership roles. The baccalaureate curriculum also provides you with the foundation for graduate study in nursing if you choose to continue your education.

The Zoology and Pre-veterinary Track is designed for students seeking entrance into a veterinary medical program or graduate school in an animal biology related field.  In addition to core Biology courses in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology, this track emphasizes courses in Physiology, Animal Behavior and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.  Additional courses in Mammalogy, Ornithology, Herpetology and Ichthyology will broaden the student’s experience.  Moreover, electives such as Vertebrate Evolution and Ecology, and Zoo & Aquarium Management as well as lab courses in Anatomy, and Embryology/Development will prepare students to succeed in veterinary school or any graduate program in animal biology.  Students can also acquire hands-on experience and earn independent study credit through established connections with organizations such as the Central Florida Zoo, Back To Nature, and the Birds of Prey Center of Maitland.

The B.A. in Digital Media allows students to integrate the multiple domains of art, storytelling, and technology. It is designed to provide a solid foundation in techniques and theory in one focused area of competence, provide a broad understanding of related disciplines including arts, humanities, and technology, and provide extended experience in working in multidisciplinary teams on realistic problems. It recognizes that there are many combinations of courses which meet the needs of individual students. Two specializations -Game Design and Web and Social Platforms - lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The BS in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) prepares you to care for patients by ensuring that medical data is high quality and kept secure. The field provides a link between clinicians, administrators, technology designers, operations, and information technology professionals. You’ll present health information in a meaningful manner and are experts in managing, interpreting, analyzing, auditing, coding and converting health data into statistical information that everyone can use. The work you do will help improve patient outcomes.

Throughout your courses, learn about medicine, management, finance, information technology and law. In addition to medical coding skills, gain an understanding of how to use data analytics to interpret a variety of healthcare scenarios that may be encountered in the workplace. The management major combines theory and application, with a focus on problem solving, group projects, and case analysis. The curriculum prepares students for leadership roles in a variety of organizations, including: large and small, public and private, for profit and non-for-profit. The program can also accommodate students who wish to embark on their own entrepreneurial ventures. Students majoring in management should possess strong quantitative skills, enjoy problem solving, and embrace working with people. Not eligible for a double degree with another College of Business Administration major.

The General Biology Track is the most general of the Biology Tracks and only has the core Biology courses as required courses.  The remaining 22 hours are chosen from any of the upper division restricted electives, with a requirement that students take at least two lab courses and one class that focuses on plants and a second class that focuses on animals.  This track is appropriate for all professions that require a major in biology and will prepare students for post-graduate education in professional or graduate school. Moreover, the classroom and laboratory courses will prepare students directly for the workforce in jobs associated with government field offices (such as Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission or Florida Department of Environmental Protection) or industry as a laboratory technician.  If you are unsure what you want to do with your major and/or want to choose from the variety of upper division electives that are part of the Biology curriculum, then staying in the General Biology Track may be appropriate for you.
