The study of human communication allows students to develop critical thinking skills, an understanding of cultural and gender-related differences in how people communicate, and it sharpens their marketable skills such as writing, public speaking and persuasion.

Students with a B.A. in human communication pursue jobs in a wide range of industries including management, sales, human resources, higher education (admissions and student services), marketing and training. Many students also continue their education in graduate school, law school and business or professional graduate degree programs.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Rhetoric provides students with in-depth training in the interrelated fields of writing, rhetoric, and literacy studies, preparing them for a range of writing-focused jobs that involve the analysis, creation, editing, adaptation, and/or coordination of written, digital, and multimedia texts.

The Business Economics major for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration provides you with specialized training in economics along with core skills in business administration. Throughout the program, you’ll have the flexibility to select from a variety of courses that allow you to customize your education program to your personal interests and career goals.

Build a solid background in economics and develop a unique perspective to help companies and organizations improve their decision-making and understand the consequences of their decisions. Explore areas such as data acquisition and analysis, interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking, report writing, and develop competency with relevant software. You’ll learn about economics and business careers through research, informational interviews of professionals, and exposure to work environments through job shadowing, volunteer or internship opportunities.

Composition students will take theoretical and practical courses in music composition as well music history, theory, film and video game composition, piano, conducting and more. They perform in major and minor ensembles, and hear their own compositions played at composition studio recitals.

The composition studio at UCF is small and competitive. Student composers receive an extraordinary amount of personalized instruction and are able to access resources set aside exclusively for their use, including UCF’s state-of-the-art Media Composition Lab.

The Bachelor of Design in Architecture was created to meet the local need in Central Florida for an architecture program. The Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) degree program is a partnership with Valencia College and the University of Florida, as part of a 2+2+2 program to enable students to complete an NAAB accredited architectural program in Central Florida. Note: Architecture (B.Des.) majors must have continual access to a computer. Contact the Architecture advising office (407-582-5500) for the minimum hardware and software specifications.

Restaurant & Foodservice Management (BS) may be completed fully online, although not all elective options or program prerequisites may be offered online. Newly admitted students choosing to complete this program exclusively via UCF online classes may enroll with a reduction in campus-based fees. The Pre- Health Professional Biology Track is designed for students seeking entrance into professional health programs including medicine (MD or DO), veterinary medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.  Students in this track will also be well prepared if they decide to apply to graduate school.  In addition to core Biology courses in Genetics and Molecular & Cellular Biology, this track emphasizes courses in development, physiology, and anatomy.  Moreover, electives like Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Evolution & Medicine as well as lab courses in Anatomy, Genetics and Genomics will give students the background needed to excel in professional school entrance exams (e.g. the MCAT) as well as courses offered in those professional schools.

The BS in Emergency Management prepares you to become a future emergency management leader through providing a well-rounded curriculum that covers the fundamental skills, theoretical understanding and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry. Your coursework will offer a deeper understanding about how to support organizations and communities in the preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery efforts of disaster situations while emphasizing ethical decision making, resilience and social responsibility.

As an emergency management major, you’ll be required to complete a minor. Many students choose from areas such as public administration, urban and regional planning and nonprofit management. You may also select a minor outside of the School of Public Administration that has been approved by the undergraduate program coordinator. Emergency management classes are offered face-to-face at UCF Downtown, mixed-mode and online. This offers you the flexibility and convenience you need to balance school, work and life.
