Overview

The School of Social Work at UCF offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. Each program is fully accredited through 2024 by the Council on Social Work Education.

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program prepares generalist social work practitioners skilled in the design and delivery of social services across a wide range of practice settings, including health settings.

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program prepares generalist and advanced clinical social work practitioners to engage effectively in evidenced based clinical social work practice that promotes optimal well being in individuals, families and communities experiencing health and mental health challenges.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

As a computer engineering major, you’ll explore ways to improve the underlying digital hardware, computing networks, and production software systems that impact our everyday lives. Your work will help advance our society, covering areas such as computer systems design, mobile and embedded computing devices, sensor networks, reconfigurable logic, software engineering and machine intelligence applications.

Computer engineering coursework focuses on the tradeoff of execution throughput compared to hardware/software/energy costs of all types of computers from portable embedded devices and miniature sensor nodes, up through supercomputers. You’ll learn from renowned faculty that have been engaged in cutting-edge research and have an opportunity to pursue undergraduate research in your area of interest with these faculty. Students completing the Forensic Science - Biochemistry Track B.S. degree will also meet the requirements for ACS certification. This track is designed to align students with specific courses necessary for the examination of DNA and other biochemical evidence. The Sociology degree, which may be completed online, face-to-face, or as a mix of online and face-to-face courses, has two major goals: 1) to promote undergraduate student excellence and 2) to advance career success for graduates by providing them with tangible, career-oriented skills. The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies – Diversity Studies Track is a broadly based interdisciplinary curriculum. The degree's interdisciplinary nature provides students with tools that can be applied across a spectrum of science, social behavior, and humanities, while foregrounding the importance of analyses with a focus on diversity and inclusion in such categories as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and ability. Students pursuing a career in social justice or advocacy work, involvement in international nonprofit organizations or diverse research and journalistic careers, as well as those seeking preparation for graduate study in related areas will enjoy the flexibility of this program. This track requires students to take two unique IDS Core courses, 30 credit hours of courses related to theory and representations/experiences of diversity, and select from a number of related minors such as the Women's and Gender Studies or Diversity and Social Inequality.

The finance major at UCF provides you with a broad knowledge in business finance, investments, financial institutions, international finance, risk management and insurance, and real estate. Throughout your coursework, you’ll learn asset valuation, corporate planning and performance analysis — gaining the theoretical background and tools of analysis required for making effective financial decisions.

In upper-level finance classes, you’ll integrate Bloomberg terminals into your studies, which are used extensively by the financial services industry to analyze companies and various securities (e.g. equity, fixed income, options). You can also boost your skill set and enhance your resume by taking the Bloomberg Market Concepts test that leads to certification. Or, if you’re interested in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) material, the Financial Statement Analysis course helps your understand and interpret financial statement data for business decisions and valuations.
